About the Role:

We have an opportunity for an experienced Business Improvement Specialist to join the team based at our Willowdale Mine site. This position will be offered on a family friendly Monday to Friday roster, with a paid leisure day off every 4 weeks, so you can spend more time shaping your world the way you want!

The primary role of the Business Improvement Specialist is to demonstrate change through developing, coordinating and implementing management systems and executing initiates which drive business improvement.

This role is responsible for undertaking the requisite business analysis such that business improvement opportunities can be identified, scope and execute, track and report opportunities across mining. Improvement initiatives must deliver tangible and provide sustainable benefits.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work with the location line management to deploy the WA Mining strategic improvement plans.

  • Provide support to the business by facilitating the development, coordination, and implementation of business improvement initiatives.

  • Assist in the identification of opportunities to reduce cost, increase production, improve safety and culture and maintain the improvement project pipeline.

  • Assist with business improvement project management and delivery.

  • Coach individual department team leaders with the application of business improvement methods and Lean Manufacturing concepts to solve business problems.

  • Apply your problem-solving skills to create a self-sufficient, continuous improvement culture by analysing the activities of people, designing systems to identify problems and coaching people to routinely solve problems.

  • This position is a key steppingstone to leadership positions in Alcoa and your success will be measured by the improvements you deliver to the business

What you can bring to the role:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or business administration, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Experience working within operations and or maintenance in Mining.

  • Experience and qualifications in Six Sigma or other lean methodologies.

  • A drive to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated operational change management experience.

  • A strong level of communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact and influence at all levels.

  • Attention to detail and proficient problem-solving abilities.

About the Location

Willowdale is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia, and is located in the Darling Scarp east of Waroona and Cookernup. It supplies bauxite ore to the Wagerup Alumina Refinery via a direct overland conveying system and helps to produce almost half of Australia's alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia's aluminium.
