About the role:

Are you passionate about shaping communications and fostering community relations? Alcoa is looking for a passionate Communications and Community Relations Advisor to join our Corporate Affairs team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our communications and community programs, aligning with the strategic priorities of the Huntly Bauxite Mine and the broader Alcoa business. You will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to deliver compelling communications and engagement activities.

This role will be offered on a family friendly Monday to Friday roster, and we could look at flexible working options 1-2 days a week, the site based days will be based at the Pinjarra Mining Hub, or onsite across our WA Mining operations (mostly Huntly and Myara), with possible travel to Willowdale, and our refineries as we continue to develop cross team collaborative relationships.

As the Communications and Community Relations Officer, you will be at the heart of our efforts to connect with our employees and the community. You'll craft and deliver key internal communications for the Huntly Bauxite Mine. On the community side, you'll assist with internal communications campaigns and build strong relationships with local stakeholders. Your role will include coordinating community engagement activities that enhance our social license to operate. Working closely with the Huntly Senior Community Relations and Communications Advisor, the broader Alcoa of Australia Corporate Affairs team, and other employees, you'll help create a positive impact both within and outside the company.

This is a varied role where you will have a strong presence in community, enabling greater opportunity for communities to engage with, seek information and provide this valued feedback to Alcoa.

About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Bachelor degree in public relations, social sciences, communications or a similar discipline

  • Previous experience in community and stakeholder engagement

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of the Peel region of WA and in particular the communities of Jarrahdale and Dwellingup would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of the bauxite-alumina-aluminium industry and the Alcoa's geographical and socio-political setting in WA would be advantageous

  • Current WA Drivers' Licence

About the Location

Huntly is one of our two bauxite mines in Western Australia. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world's second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa's Pinjarra alumina refinery.
