Become a valued part of the team that's shaping the future of aluminium, revolutionising the way the world lives, builds, moves and flies. Be part of it and shape your world.

About the Role

Step into a key position at Alcoa where global standards and community impact unite. We're looking for a dedicated and experienced Social Performance Senior Advisor to champion our adherence to the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) throughout our Australian sites.

As part of our External Affairs and Sustainability team, you'll lead efforts to identify, manage, and mitigate social risks and impacts associated with Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs). Your work will help ensure Alcoa maintains its social licence to operate and achieves ongoing compliance with GISTM - an international benchmark for responsible tailings management.

You'll play a key role in engaging with communities and stakeholders, ensuring that their concerns are understood and addressed, and that our operations reflect best-practice social performance by:

  • Providing strategic social performance support across Alcoa's Western Australian operations.

  • Collaborating with internal teams including geotechnical, EHS, and site leadership to integrate social risk management into technical tailings storage facility (TSF) processes, in line with GISTM requirements.

  • Maintaining a portfolio-level overview of TSFs to monitor progress on social aspects of GISTM, including gap identification, task implementation, and resolution of assurance findings.

  • Conducting ongoing quality assurance of site-level GISTM implementation, covering human rights due diligence, stakeholder engagement, and emergency preparedness while advising on strategic improvements.

  • Developing tools and procedures to ensure consistent and effective delivery of GISTM social requirements across locations.

  • Identifying and escalating emerging social risks or potential non-compliances, ensuring timely action and informed decision-making by management.

  • Contributing to internal and external reporting on GISTM implementation, supporting transparency and accountability.

What's on offer

  • Attractive remuneration and variable bonus plan.

  • Employee growth and development opportunities.

  • Parental leave support for all caregivers.

  • Employee assistance program for personal support services.

  • Alcoa Live Well program offering travel, lifestyle, health and wellbeing discounts.

  • Salary packaging for a novated car lease, employee share plan and superannuation options.

What you can bring to the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline – Social Science, Environment, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience working within a similar social performance capacity across the mineral resource sector with the skills and an interest in GISTM that can meaningfully engage with communities and stakeholders on complex technical aspects of our operations.

  • Demonstrated track record in collaborative engagement with engineering and technical teams, along with facilitating and leading multi-disciplinary project teams to achieve objectives within critical path timelines.

  • Your ability to engage with community and local stakeholders regarding engagement, consultation, approvals, social risk and impact management.

  • Previous exposure to emergency response and disaster recovery, grievance, complaints and conflict resolution, and compensation and livelihood restoration would be considered desirable.

  • Your strategic mindset and ability to work through and influence others to effect change that leads to gaining agreement amongst critical stakeholders.

  • Being a self-starter with credibility, tenacity, and a high energy approach to driving responsible and inclusive outcomes in industrial operations.
