THE TEAM:

The Graphics Core IP hardware development department is more than 1,000 engineers spread across multiple different geographies. It has several different subsystem development teams, system level verification teams, physical design team as well as a graphics IP specific project management team. Needless to say, Graphics is one of the most valuable IPs that AMD owns and also one of the largest, most interesting and complex IPs in the GPU. The immediate team consists of engineers across different levels of experience, and we part of one of the subsystem developments (digital design and verification) groups.

THE ROLE:

As a Design Engineer, you will work with leading industry tools and methodologies to contribute to the development of micro-architecture and a variety of digital design blocks which are a part of the Graphics Core IP (GFXIP). You will work closely with architects, other design engineers and the verification team to delivery highest quality digital logic design on schedule. Furthermore, you will also collaborate with the Physical Design (PD) and Power Attainment teams to reach performance and power targets. You may also be required to support post-silicon bring-up, diagnostics and validation teams. It would not be wrong to assume that you will get an opportunity to collaborate with some of the brightest people in the industry in order to solve challenging engineering problems that require trading-off between power, performance and cost to build highly optimized, cutting-edge technology.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in Computer Architecture, Digital Logic Design and Verification and should strive to continuously learn on the job. Excellent communication, organization and teamwork skills are paramount, as is the ability to identify and tackle different problems with diligence, whether it is a tool, flow or process issue, or a logic design or micro-architecture issue. You should be able strike a balance between collaborative problem-solving and independent solution development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Study and analyze to gain a deep understanding of high-level architectural and micro-architecture specifications for Graphics Core IP blocks – complex cores that are the center of the Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) used for a variety of applications
  • Collaborate with chip architects and other design engineers to develop micro-architecture specifications
  • Digital logic design in Verilog and SystemVerilog including writing SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA) and cover properties to ensure highest quality
  • Assist in Formal Property Verification (FPV) by working closely with FPV team to drive high confidence in the critical areas of the design earlier on during project life cycle
  • Collaborate with the verification team to provide guidance and requirements to ensure zero post-silicon bug escapes.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Solid fundamental understanding of Computer Architecture and Digital Design concepts
  • Experience in Verilog or SystemVerilog
  • Familiarity with scripting languages: perl or tcl or bash/csh, etc
  • Exposure to design and verification tools – ModelSim, Icarus Verilog, VCS or equivalent simulator, debug tools such as waveform viewers
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in design with multiple clock domains is an asset

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in computer engineering/Electrical Engineering

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
