THE ROLE

We are looking for a highly motivated and technically skilled HSIO Functional Validation Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on driving system-level validation of High-Speed IO (HSIO) protocols and developing debug tools. The ideal candidate will have a strong blend of hardware understanding and software development expertise to build scalable debug and analysis tools that support validation and bring-up of complex IO subsystems in post-silicon environments.

This individual will work closely with design, firmware, and platform validation teams to develop test infrastructure, enable protocol compliance testing, and support debug during critical validation phases. A strong technical expertise in HSIO validation such as PCIe and Ethernet, combined with proven software development and hands-on debug experience are essential for success in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain system-level debug and validation tools tailored for HSIO protocols (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet).
  • Collaborate with design and validation teams to define functional validation test plans and debug hooks.
  • Execute validation for HSIO features in post-silicon environments, including silicon bring-up, protocol compliance, and stress testing.
  • Build automated validation frameworks and scripting tools to support large-scale test execution and data analysis.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis for HSIO functional issues and support cross-functional debug efforts.
  • Analyze protocol traces and signal integrity data using industry-standard tools (e.g., protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes).
  • Integrate validation tools into system firmware and validation flows for scalability and reuse across platforms.
  • Provide feedback to design and architecture teams to improve debuggability and testability.
  • Provide root-cause analysis and guidance to internal and customer design teams to help in issue closure.
  • A self-starter required and able to deal with a high level of ambiguity.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to improve post-silicon validation test quality, strategy, methodology, and process.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Strong understanding of HSIO protocols (e.g., PCIe enumeration and SW stack layer; Ethernet reset, power management, layer 2/3 subsystem functionality).
  • Fundamental knowledge in AI ASIC and GPU architecture.
  • Solid programming/scripting skills in Python, C/C++, and shell scripting (Perl, TCL, etc. is a plus).
  • Experience to debug HSIO in pre/post-silicon or validation lab environments.
  • Working knowledge of Linux/Ubuntu OS, Kernel driver and/or embedded firmware is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with HSIO system-level validation concepts, test plans and tools.
  • Experience with protocol analyzers, exercisers, and traffic generators.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and data-driven debug workflows.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 10 years of experience in hardware validation, embedded systems, or debug tool development.
