Lead Silicon Design Engineer (FPGA Silicon Architecture/CAD & EDA Flows)

THE ROLE:

The AMD FPGA Architecture team (in Bangalore) is seeking motivated engineers to advance power efficiency and performance of current and next‑generation FPGA devices through interdisciplinary architectural innovation. This work spans circuit and CAD methodologies, power–performance analysis and tradeoffs, algorithmic optimization, silicon and board‑level characterization, sensor design, and data‑driven modeling using statistical and machine‑learning techniques across pre‑ and post‑silicon phases.

THE PERSON:

You are passionate about modern VLSI architectures, algorithms, and applying machine‑learning and statistical techniques to improve designs, flows, and architectures. You are motivated to make tangible impact on design methodology, reliability, and energy efficiency of silicon devices on advanced technology nodes. You collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams and bring strong analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and a clear bias towards taking ideas from concept to execution and closure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Explore and develop new circuit techniques, methodologies, and architectural concepts to improve power efficiency and performance in FPGA devices
  • Design and implement sensors, measurement infrastructures, and test vehicles to collect power‑performance data from silicon and hardware platforms
  • Build high‑level analytical and data‑driven models for circuit, architectural, and power‑management features across pre‑ and post‑silicon phases
  • Analyze power‑performance tradeoffs using architectural, algorithmic, and modeling approaches to guide design decisions
  • Collaborate closely with FPGA architects, hardware, CAD, and system engineers to define, validate, and drive new architectural and power‑management features to execution

 PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Core Background:

  • 5+ years of overall experience, including 3+ years across one or more of the following domains: ASIC/FPGA design, VLSI architecture, VLSI CAD, software/algorithm development, or closely related areas
  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following:
    • FPGA or VLSI architecture and design methodologies
    • Algorithm development and optimization for hardware‑aware power, performance, or efficiency analysis
    • CAD flows and methodologies, particularly for power, timing, reliability, yield, or design closure
    • Application of machine‑learning or statistical‑learning techniques for modeling, prediction, or optimization of pre‑ and post‑silicon behavior
  • Experience working on software, CAD, or algorithmic projects with a clear interest in hardware, architecture, or silicon‑level impact

Desirable / Domain‑Specific Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of FPGA architectures (Xilinx or equivalent)
  • Hands‑on experience with FPGA design tools such as Xilinx Vivado or equivalent
  • Proficiency in RTL design using Verilog and/or SystemVerilog
  • Strong digital circuit and logic design fundamentals, with familiarity in SPICE‑based circuit simulation

If in doubt, send your resume and let us decide.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • PhD with demonstrated research publications in the candidate's focus area and a broad interest in applying research to real‑world silicon, architecture, or design challenges
