THE ROLE:
We are the Central Engineering team providing test solutions for Enterprise New Product Introduction (NPI) under the Product Engineering Organization. We do exciting product development for leading-edge technology that will power the next generation processors used for high performance computing, data centers, and enterprise servers.
As a Product Development Engineer 2, you will help drive New Product Introduction (NPI) to volume by executing characterization, yield analysis, and product definition for next‑generation AMD products. You will collaborate across design, diagnostics, foundry, quality, and manufacturing teams to optimize test content, reduce test time, improve yield, and land the right distributions to business targets. You will be challenged to come up with innovative and creative ways to solve the complex problems that come with developing products using the latest technologies.
THE PERSON:
We're looking for an engineer who is eager to deepen their technical expertise and continuously learn. Someone who enjoys solving problems through data, approaches challenges with curiosity, and is motivated by uncovering insights. The ideal candidate is collaborative, open to sharing knowledge, and comfortable working with multiple teams across AMD. Strong communication skills — both written and verbal — are important for engaging with a global engineering community. We value a proactive teammate who contributes positively to team culture, supports others, and helps drive collective success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Silicon Characterization & Debug: Support the development and execution of characterization plans across PVT corners. Perform device measurements, analyze electrical behaviors, identify parametric shifts or sensitivities, and assist in triaging failure signatures. Collaborate with design, test, and diagnostics teams to drive issue reproduction and contribute to root‑cause investigations.
- Yield Engineering: Contribute to early‑silicon yield learning by collecting data, identifying initial yield trends, and flagging potential systemic issues. Perform structured analysis across defectivity, structural, and parametric components, and work with test content owners to highlight pattern issues, coverage gaps, or debug priorities.
- Product Definition Support: Assist in the creation or refinement of product definitions including OPNs, fuse maps, binning schemes, and performance/power guard bands. Support data collection, correlation studies, and boundary‑setting activities to ensure product definitions align with technical feasibility and manufacturing targets.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with senior team members and partner functions (design, test, diagnostics, yield, reliability, manufacturing) to ensure smooth execution of characterization, debug, and yield‑improvement activities. Communicate findings clearly, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute inputs to product milestone reviews.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Hands‑on silicon characterization exposure, including running tests across PVT corners, interpreting basic electrical behaviors, and supporting debug of parametric or functional issues.
- Familiarity with yield analysis fundamentals, such as identifying early trends, reviewing defectivity/parametric distributions, and assisting in debugging systemic issues with guidance from senior engineers.
- Experience supporting product definition activities, such as collecting data for binning decisions, performing correlation checks, or helping validate guard‑band and limit settings.
- Basic proficiency in scripting or automation (Python, SQL, or similar) to process data, generate reports, or streamline repetitive engineering tasks.
- Exposure to test methodologies (parametric, functional, scan/MBIST, or system-level testing) and willingness to learn ATE or SLT workflows.
- Experience with engineering data tools (e.g., JMP, Python notebooks, visualization dashboards) for statistical analysis and problem‑solving.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and debugging mindset, with the ability to break down issues methodically under guidance.
- Comfort working cross‑functionally with design, test, diagnostics, and yield teams, contributing clear data and observations to support joint investigations.
- Experience in continuous improvement, such as helping refining processes, documenting learnings, or contributing small automation enhancements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS/MS Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or comparable disciplines
- Prior experience in Product Engineering, Test Engineering, or similar semiconductor roles.
