THE ROLE:
The Senior Director of Wafer & Capacity Planning is a critical leadership role within AMD's Global Operations organization, accountable for defining and executing AMD's wafer and final manufacturing capacity strategy across foundry and OSAT partners. This position drives long-term strategic planning, ensures operational readiness for technology transitions, and influences executive-level decisions to secure AMD's competitive advantage. The role requires a visionary leader with deep semiconductor expertise, exceptional stakeholder management, and the ability to lead large, complex initiatives across AMD.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enterprise-Level Strategy:
Own AMD's wafer capacity planning operations, aligning with corporate objectives, product roadmaps, and technology enablement goals. - Executive Engagement:
Partner with senior leadership across Operations, Technology, and Business Units to influence investment decisions and capacity commitments. - Global Supplier Leadership:
Secure wafer and final manufacturing capacity with foundries and OSATs; establish long-term agreements and risk mitigation frameworks. - Scenario Planning & Risk Management:
Lead executive-level scenario planning for capacity allocation, technology ramps, and contingency strategies to protect revenue and market share. - Cross-Functional Governance:
Chair capacity planning governance forums; ensure alignment across Product Planning, Procurement, Quality, and Manufacturing Strategy. - Technology Enablement:
Drive readiness for advanced packaging technologies (e.g., CoWoS, SOIC) and next-generation nodes; oversee capacity ramp and tool installation strategies. - Operational Excellence:
Establish KPIs and dashboards for wafer capacity performance; ensure proactive issue resolution and continuous improvement. - Leadership & Talent Development:
Build and mentor a high-performing global team; foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
- Experience:
- 10+ years in semiconductor supply chain or wafer planning, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
- Proven success in capacity planning, supplier negotiations, and technology enablement at scale.
- Skills:
- Strategic and analytical thinking with ability to influence at the C-suite level.
- Expertise in advanced packaging and leading-edge technology nodes.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing multi-billion-dollar capacity investments.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills across global teams.
- Tools & Systems:
Familiarity with ERP and planning platforms (SAP, Kinaxis) and advanced analytics tools.
