THE ROLE
We are seeking a visionary technical leader with a strong foundation in numerical analysis and high-performance computing. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of applied mathematics and performance engineering. You will lead the analysis and improvement of GPU kernels, drive innovation in multi-precision and numerical stability, fostering a culture of technical quality that includes performance, accuracy, and engineering excellence.
THE PERSON
The ideal candidate brings over a decade of experience in developing high-performance numerical algorithms for scientific and AI workloads, with a strong emphasis on GPU optimization and distributed computing. You have a proven track record of bridging mathematical theory with real-world performance tuning, and you are passionate about designing scalable, accurate, and efficient methods. Your leadership experience includes mentoring teams, driving implementation decisions that prioritize accuracy as one of the many dimensions of quality. You excel in cross-functional collaboration, especially in environments that require tight integration between software, hardware, and system architecture. You are deeply familiar with the full software development lifecycle and committed to continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Focusing on GPU-accelerated libraries, explore novel numerical strategies and techniques to improve performance, accuracy, and numerical scalability.
- Lead and mentor software engineering teams focused on scientific computing and AI integration. Contribute to hiring and talent development, fostering a culture of learning and innovation. Drive the adoption of best practices in numerical software development and performance analysis.
- Collaborate with hardware architects, system designers, and software teams to co-optimize GPU performance across platforms. Drive alignment across diverse technical stakeholders to ensure robust and extensible solutions.
- Champion continuous improvement in software development testing and kernel development workflows. Identify and mitigate risks across a growing set of hardware architectures and datatypes.
- Establish governance frameworks for numerical software development, emphasizing reproducibility, scalability, and performance. Implement cutting-edge practices in algorithm design, performance benchmarking, and hybrid AI/numerics integration. Lead initiatives to elevate the maturity and efficiency of scientific software engineering across global teams.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Extensive and broad hands-on experience with C++, with relevant applied experience using CUDA, HIP, OpenMP, MPI, or OpenCL for accelerated computing on CPUs and GPUs. Familiarity with other programming languages e.g. Python, Rust, Go, Javascript.
- Knowledge or applied experience with popular AI/ML Frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
- Applied experience with performance engineering and continuous integration for technical and high-performance computing applications. Experienced with improving build robustness, regression management techniques, and using software deployment and orchestration management systems (Jenkins/Docker/Kubernetes/numerical methods and analysis).
- Experience with open-source software development including collaboration with community maintainers and submitting contributions, and leading or implementing various methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, and Kanban or others.
- Experience implementing professional software engineering best practices, requirements elicitation and analysis methods, scoping/estimation, coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, testing, and continuous integration.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Advanced degrees, such as M.Sc. or M.Eng. are preferred
