THE ROLE: 

Lead a team of engineers responsible for the global grid compute infrastructure at AMD and be able to engage with engineering users at technical level. Being part of Compute Platform Engineering leadership team responsible for architecture, design and 24x7 operations of AMD grid compute environment globally on prem and in cloud.

THE PERSON: 

Experience in managing globally diverse technical teams, while bringing passion, enthusiasm and dedication for a metrics driven approach towards grid utilization efficiency, uptime, resiliency, performance, and end user satisfaction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Collaborate with other functions in IT across security, compute, procurement, finance, vendors, customers, for a successful delivery of compute services.
  • Bring innovations with focus on Artificial Intelligence and champion AMD-on-AMD approach to grid infrastructure and operations.
  • Participate in budget planning, allocations, spend tracking and adherence. Hire and retain employees.
  • Conduct full review of existing HPC EDA infrastructure with grid, OS, and EDA tools teams as well as engineering technical leaders and re-architect the future global hybrid on prem and multi-cloud HPC infrastructure that is highly efficient, utilized, scalable, and cost effective.  
  • Propose innovative approaches and work collaboratively with peer teams to maximize grid performance and efficiency including overprovisioning workloads to reduce the amount of memory waste and the number of idling servers. 
  • Be technical leader across projects and departmental boundaries in the development of new HPC EDA strategies, solutions, processes, or technologies with significant impact on AMD product families, go to market strategies and customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and maintain AMD's technological leadership position in HPC EDA infrastructure in semiconductor industry and represents AMD to the outside technical community, partners, and vendors. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in managing globally diverse technical teams.
  • Adept at troubleshooting, documentation, executive communications for cross functional tracking, resolution, and reporting of issues.
  • Experience with implementing automation to simply and reduce redundancy.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience in managing senior engineers with appropriate use of delegation coupled with “trust but verify” validation to ensure alignment and consistency in deliverables.
  • Extensive experience supporting EDA engineering compute grids and applications, from open source to in-house workflows. 
  • A proven track record for sustained innovation in adopting cloud technologies including effective use of public cloud spot instances to increase the ROI for EDA workloads. 
  • Experience in supporting large scale GRID solutions running LSF, UGE, Slurm, NC. 
  • Demonstrable experience in Linux/Unix and NAS HPC for all types of Silicon Engineering and software development use cases. 
  • Ability to develop and articulate strategic shifts and initiatives in HPC EDA landscape to senior IT and engineering leaders and users. 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or another relevant field.
  • Master's Degree (MS) preferred.
