THE ROLE:
We are looking for a highly motivated and technically skilled HSIO Functional Validation Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on developing debug tools and driving system-level validation of High-Speed IO (HSIO) protocols. The ideal candidate will have a strong blend of hardware understanding and software development expertise to build scalable debug and analysis tools that support validation and bring-up of complex IO subsystems in post-silicon environments.
This individual will work closely with design, firmware, and platform validation teams to develop test infrastructure, enable protocol compliance testing, and support debug during critical validation phases. A strong software mindset, hands-on debug experience, and familiarity with IO standards such as PCIe and Ethernet are essential for success in this role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, deploy, and maintain system-level debug and validation tools tailored for HSIO protocols (e.g. PCIe, Ethernet.).
- Collaborate with design and validation teams to define functional validation test plans and debug hooks.
- Execute validation for HSIO features in post-silicon environments, including silicon bring-up, protocol compliance, and stress testing.
- Build automated validation frameworks and scripting tools to support large-scale test execution and data analysis.
- Conduct root cause analysis for HSIO functional issues and support cross-functional debug efforts.
- Analyze protocol traces and signal integrity data using industry-standard tools (e.g., protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes).
- Integrate validation tools into system firmware and validation flows for scalability and reuse across platforms.
- Provide feedback to design and architecture teams to improve debug visibility and testability.
- Providing root cause analysis and guidance to internal and customer design teams to help with close issues.
- A self-starter required and able to deal with a high level of ambiguity.
- Work with cross-functional teams to improve post-silicon validation test strategy, methodology, and process.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong understanding of HSIO interfaces and protocols (e.g. PCIe, USB, SATA, Ethernet.).
- Experience with protocol analyzers, exercisers, and traffic generators.
- Solid programming/scripting skills in Python, C/C++, and shell scripting (Perl, TCL, etc. is a plus).
- Familiarity with system-level validation concepts and tools.
- Debug experience in post-silicon or validation lab environments.
- Working knowledge of Linux and/or embedded firmware is highly desirable.
- Experience with test automation frameworks and data-driven debug workflows.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 5–8 years of experience in hardware validation, embedded systems, or debug tool development.
