THE ROLE:

 

The Sr. Director of Technical Accounting will report to the Corporate Vice President of Technical & Revenue Accounting and serve as a key member of the technical accounting and corporate leadership team. This position leads the interpretation and application of complex accounting standards, with a focus on highly complex structures as well as collaboration with business partners. This position is the primary accounting business partner for AMD's strategic contracts and structuring activities, responsible for driving the accounting analysis for complex commercial activities and strategic initiatives, providing critical business insights and decision support. This is a highly visible leadership role supporting, demanding significant interaction with senior executives and cross-functional leaders.

 

THE PERSON:

 

We are seeking a strategic, results-oriented leader with a strong bias for action and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will be current on market dynamics with complex structures involving financial instruments, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and adept at communicating complex accounting to senior executives. You must possess strong leadership qualities, take ownership of the accounting aspects, drive continuous improvement, establish best practices, and partner with the business and their financial partners building strong partnerships across the organization.

 

 

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Research and interpret accounting guidance for complex business transactions, especially financial instruments (derivatives, hedges, debt, leases, financial guarantees, VIE's and equity investments).
  • Lead implementation of new accounting standards and policy updates, as applicable
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to internal teams (strategy & corporate development, finance, treasury, legal, reporting).
  • Oversee accounting for fair value measurements and valuation methodologies
  • Review accounting memos and position papers.
  • Support preparation and review of financial statements and disclosures.
  • Lead and mentor technical accounting team members.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Experience in technical accounting.
  • Big 4 accounting experience at the senior manager+ level.
  • Rotation in a National Office role at a Big 4 preferred.
  • Strong expertise in financial instruments and various related structures
  • Semiconductor or high-tech industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex accounting and financial concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated, intellectually curious, and comfortable with ambiguity, possessing a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Prior leadership experience.

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

 

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA (Active) required.

 

LOCATION: Santa Clara, CA
