Job Role and Responsibility: AMD, Inc. is hiring a Sr. Silicon Design Engineer to drive technical innovation to improve AMD's capabilities across validation, including tool and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross-functional technical initiatives; debug tools along with in-depth hardware and software knowledge to debug reported performance gaps; serve as a workload tool and automation architect to enable workload evaluations across multiple platforms with minimal effort; optimize performance characteristics and internals of AMD Server CPU hardware (EPYC), including 5 generations of Zen cores; develop and enhance AMD CPU hardware, focusing on workload analysis, tracing and simulation flows, using software tools for performance debug and optimization; implement algorithms, and integrate new features and optimizations into tool suite; debug and resolve issues, working directly with the customers to address shortcomings and optimize performance; and analyze problem reports, investigating root cause, and implement fixes or workarounds to ensure that tools function correctly and efficiently.

Qualifications: Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Amount and type of experience required: Three (3) years of experience in job offered or closely related engineering role.
Employer will accept alternate combination of education and experience: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 60 months of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in job offered or closely related engineering role.
Specific skills required:
Position requires three (3) years of experience in the following skills:
• CPU performance counter analysis and debug;
• CPU microarchitecture performance analysis, debug, and optimization;
• OS kernel & systems development;
• Memory management and multi-threading;
• Code optimization using the GPU or software performance analysis;
• Software debugging (macOS, Linux, or Unix);
• Data structures;
• x86-64 architecture; and
• Instruction Tracing tools.
At AMD, your base pay is one part of your total rewards package. Your base pay will depend on where your skills, qualifications, experience, and location fit into the hiring range for the position.
