SENIOR AI SOFTWARE ENGINEER

THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for a highly proactive full-time engineer to take full ownership of our Open Source Software (OSS) health. You won't just be watching dashboards; you will be the early warning system for our core AI infrastructure. Your goal is to ensure that projects like PyTorch, vLLM, SGLang, JAX and Transformers remain stable, performant, and compatible with our internal hardware and workflows.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate should be passionate about software engineering and possess leadership skills to drive sophisticated issues to resolution. Able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across AMD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily CI/CD Vigilance: Monitor daily build health and CI pipelines across key upstream OSS projects to catch failures before they impact our internal teams.
  • Regression Detection: Identify performance or functional regressions early. When a new commit breaks a kernel or slows down inference, you are the first to know.
  • Upstream Engagement: Actively track upstream PRs, issues, and roadmap changes. You will be our "eyes and ears" in the community.
  • Hardware Availability Monitoring: Ensure our specific hardware configurations are consistently supported and tested within the upstream CI environments.
  • Incident Escalation: When a critical issue is identified, you will provide a clear technical brief, identify the "Top 3" blockers, and escalate them to the appropriate internal or community stakeholders.
  • Trend Analysis: Move beyond the "what" to the "why." Identify recurring stability patterns and provide actionable insights on the health of the ecosystem

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Technical Literacy: Deep comfort with Python, C++, and the build systems (CMake, Bazel) used in major AI frameworks.
  • OSS Proficiency: Proven experience navigating GitHub at scale (tracking issues, understanding PR dependencies, interacting with maintainers).
  • AI Framework Knowledge: Hands-on experience with at least two of the following: PyTorch, vLLM, SGLang, JAX and Transformers
  • Infrastructure & CI: Familiarity with GitHub Actions, Buildkite, or similar CI/CD tools, especially regarding GPU/accelerator runners.
  • The "Hunter" Mentality: A natural inclination to investigate anomalies and a bias toward action and resolution tracking.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
