THE ROLE:
AMD is searching for engineering talent to set and drive future systems level vision and technical requirements for AMDs Data Center Systems Group (DSG). This individual will join a team of seasoned engineers spanning hardware and software, from node level to rack level design, from BIOS and security to cloud native cloud computing, from memory technologies to high performance fabrics, from Automotive to Server/Storage, Cloud and more. The DSG Architecture and Strategy team goal is to drive our technical strategy to inform and influence AMD's Enterprise products, optimized for the vision of the future, via collaboration with internal stakeholders, customers, end users, and strategic partners.
THE PERSON:
- Ability to translate highly technical concepts into actionable plan
- Ability to drive hands on proof-of-concepts to collect data and facts
- Superlative communication skills to address multiple internal and external stakeholders, partners, and customers
- Skill in analyzing tradeoffs and making analytical, fact-based recommendations that have substantial technical, business, and financial impacts
- Ability to guide product definition using credible insights developed by interacting with end customers, ISVs/IHVs, and strategic partners
- Ability to build relationships with strategic customers and partners to ensure that AMD enterprise and embedded products are built to match the evolving needs of the market
- Collaboration skills to engage a team of engineering, product management and business development professionals to achieve outstanding business results
- Strong background in industry technology offerings and their trade-offs
- Experience navigating the atypical requirements of Standards Development Organizations and shepherding specifications progress both inside and outside the organization
- Ability to act with autonomy, yet be highly communicative and proactively interact with team members on projects
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner with SoC design teams and product management in providing a unified and clear platform / system level vision to influence AMD's networking and storage roadmap
- Work closely with AMD architects and strategists to ensure coordinated and cooperative strategies across multiple use case and business units
- Drive reference platform requirements and partner with engineering on balance of internal / external execution
- Drive workload and application-level strategies internally and with industry partners / ecosystem
- Represent AMD datacenter system level vision in industry consortiums, events, and strategic partnerships
- Work with OEMs, end customers, ISV/IHV partners to drive workload and use case plans that facilitate joint roadmap definition
- Lead and/or engage in joint proof-of-concept activities
- Represent AMD in certain standards bodies
- Participate in technological evaluation from potential partners
PREFERRED AREAS OF EXPERIENCE:
- Experience as lead architect/engineer for storage platforms/sub-systems for markets such as Cloud, Embedded, Storage, HPC, Edge, AI, or Memory
- Experience developing platforms with high-speed digital design and interconnects and a thorough understanding of the engineering tradeoffs involved
- Networking & IO experience (e.g, Fibre Channel, Ethernet, InfiniBand, SmartNICs, UEC, NVMe-oF, PCIe, CXL)
- Storage & Media experience (i.e. Flash, Persistent Memory, RAID, SSDs, DDR, NVMe, NVMe-oF, NVM programming, Computational Storage)
- Extensive knowledge of storage and storage networking protocols and architectures
- Experience with HPC and/or AI clusters and interconnects
- Familiarity with Data Mover Accelerators (e.g., SDXI)
- Experience with active participation in Standards organizations strongly preferred
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors degree or higher preferred
