THE ROLE:
This role will initially need to assess the current state of AMD's FW, SW and ecosystem capabilities and define the generational improvements required. This will require significant cross functional alignment and teaming skills. Obviously, it also requires an expert level of understanding of the security technologies, capabilities, and challenges. Growth of security development teams to execute is expected to augment the existing program and product management teams within AMD. Leading this effort will require an unusual mix of technical breadth and depth, problem solving, management skills, and soft skills. It's not for the overly introverted. It is for the ambitious engineering leader who appreciates having a high-visibility role and making a significant impact to both AMD's client business and the direction of the PC industry. To be successful in this role, you'll also need to blend excellent technical understanding of the operation of PC systems, highly optimized engineering processes and tools, cross functional and cross company collaboration, mentoring and growing other technical leaders, and translating the business needs of the client product group to the product and system features that meet those requirements.
THE PERSON:
As a Systems Design Engineer, you will grow and work with a team of talented engineers to deliver world class Security for our business. Partner with internal and external engineering teams, system development, system solutions, and deployment and customer engineering teams to deliver new and innovative security features to AMD product and systems. This is a new, “ground floor” role within AMD client system engineering defined to lead forward looking, leadership capabilities into our products, software, firmware, ecosystem, and ultimately, shipping customer desktop, laptop, and workstation systems. Initial focus areas for this role to lead and grow the required teams, drive to deliver innovation is in security.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead definition and alignment of SW/FW requirements to implement those improvements.
- Engage existing cross functional efforts and teams working the solution components.
- Define and enter required ecosystem partnership for required solution components.
- Grow required system design and development teams to implement, optimize, tune, and test at the system level.
- Develop strong partnerships with program stakeholders across the organization and development partners.
- Effective with communication and building respect while communicating status to executive level audience
- Driving technical innovation to improve AMD's capabilities across validation, including tool and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross-functional technical initiatives
- Debugging issues found during the process, bring-up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs
- Working with multiple teams, and tracking test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of industry experience focused on system engineering and Security
- Programming/scripting skills (e.g. C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python)
- Debug techniques and methodologies
- Extensive experience with board/platform-level debugging, including delivery, sequencing, analysis, and optimization
- Extensive knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategy
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and pronounced attention to details
- Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion
- Depth and expertise in Security technologies
- Depth and expertise in PC user experience with respect to security
- Speak firmware and software language
- Understand PC system level impacts of security functions
- Ensure system assessments and customer platform attainment to deliver industry best products
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other relevant discipline
- Master's Degree (MS) preferred
