Job Summary

Coordinates and manages the services, procedures and activities in the Sterile Processing and Distribution (SPD) department . Includes management of surgical services inventory, unit inventory, decontamination, instrument assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of instruments and supplies to units. Participates in the analysis and implementation of policies and procedures pertaining to sterilization, instruments, and inventory.



Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements, and monitors a quality improvement program for SPD.
  • Assists in utilizing customer feedback and measures customer service to improve service .
  • Monitors and responds to complaints and incidents concerning the department and ensures resolution.
  • Establishes systems and procedures to promote utilization of supplies and staff.
  • Participates with materials management in contract negotiations regarding supplies and services utilized in SPD.
  • Coordinates and conducts staff meetings.
  • Monitors financial budget and administers operating and capital budgets and performs financial analysis of systems.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and stretch for long periods of time. Must lift up to 40 pounds. Push and pull heavy loads. Acuity in vision and hearing. Dexterity in both hands and fingers. Must be able to work under high pressure.



Education, Experience and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's of Science or Art preferred. Graduate of Accredited Central Processing or Surgical Technology Program preferred. Minimum of 3 years central service or surgical experience required. Management experience preferred.
