Position Summary  

Reporting directly to the KBCS General Manager, the Associate Director of Development is responsible for managing and executing KBCS¿s year-round individual giving program and strategy. The Associate Director of Development will produce no less than three on-air fund drives annually, manage the station¿s direct mail and email campaigns as well as supplemental campaigns i.e. vehicle donations, matching gifts, and employee giving, and events. They will also manage the distribution of donor acknowledgement letters, thank you gifts, year-end giving statements, and supplemental stewardship communication including the KBCS email newsletter.

The Associate Director of Development will create and analyze fundraising reports and work closely with the station General Manager to create a strategy to cultivate existing mid-level donors into major donors. This position is the primary point of contact for KBCS donors to request help with donating, updating donor account information, and requesting support for donor-related questions and concerns. The position meets and provides regular reports and strategic updates to the Bellevue College Foundation Senior Director of Development and works closely with the Bellevue College Foundation Development Coordinator to ensure that donor and gift information within the Raiser¿s Edge database is up to date and organized to streamline efficiency. In addition, they work closely with, and leverage the support of, KBCS volunteers and Bellevue College Student employees.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $78,777/year - $114,227/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $87,639/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department  

Institutional Advancement (IA) is the external facing division of Bellevue College which includes marketing, web editing, KBCS radio station, public relations, creative services and the Bellevue College Foundation. The Institutional Advancement (IA) Division of Bellevue College works across the full academic enterprise to solidify a multi-faceted culture of brand awareness, philanthropy, and internal and external engagement. IA supports the College's mission by increasing awareness of, advocacy for, engagement in, and giving to Bellevue College.

Essential Functions  

Revenue Generation

  • Collaborates with KBCS General Manager to set fundraising goals and develop integrated calendar of fundraising appeals across all channels.
  • Oversees the distribution of, and creates copy for, all individual donor communications, including solicitations, acknowledgements, stewardship pieces, and the KBCS newsletter, through direct mail, on-air messaging, the KBCS website, email, social media, the KBCS app and more.
  • Plans, leads and implements a minimum of three on-air fundraising campaigns annually, including participation in on-air pitching, volunteer coordination, staff and volunteer training, goal setting, and scripting. Analyzes effectiveness of campaigns and identifies and implements areas for improvement.
  • Identifies potential acquisition populations and implements cultivation strategies to develop deeper relationships.
  • Pursues opportunities to collaborate with other organizations that are aligned with station mission to grow station awareness and audience, i.e. event sponsorship, media trades.
  • Coordinates occasional KBCS donor events; i.e. guest speakers, concerts, film screenings, open houses, station tours.

Reporting and Administrative Duties/Database Integrity

  • Serves as primary point of contact for KBCS donors  to call or email to make a donation, update information on their donor account, or answer questions related to giving
  • Updates donor account information and troubleshoots inconsistencies in Raiser¿s Edge database.
  • Reports and tracks giving trends and progress towards revenue goals for the KBCS General Manager.
  • Reports regularly to the Foundation Senior Director of Development to ensure adherence to new Foundation guidelines and collaborate on station¿s development plan.
  • Collaborates with Bellevue College Foundation Development Coordinator to ensure the integrity of the station¿s donor data and that gifts are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Serves at station liaison to the Bellevue College Foundation and attends weekly Foundation meetings, meetings of the Foundation Board of Directors, and the Foundation Development Committee.

Leads the work of staff, work-study students, and volunteers

  • Directs staff and volunteer DJs in on-air fundraising best practices, including occasional training sessions.
  • Trains and supervises work study students and administrative volunteers to support with answering phones during fund drive, in-house mailing production, tabling at KBCS events, and more.
  • Leads portion of Bellevue College Foundation Development Coordinator¿s work, as related to KBCS.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor¿s degree in a related field. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated experience in a fundraising or development office.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing effective fundraising campaign efforts.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and experience working directly with customers/donors/volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including experience working with Raiser's Edge or another constituent management system or CRM and MS Office.
  • Experience creating strategic plans for direct mail, email, and social media campaigns.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community-based public radio¿s mission, audience, and programming approaches.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing effective fundraising campaign efforts at a public media organization.
  • Familiarity with PCI and NACHA compliance.
  • Graduate degree in Fundraising or Communication.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive Certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks and oversee performance quality.
  • Working knowledge of Internal Revenue Service Charitable Giving Laws and Rules.
  • Demonstrated experience improving public radio¿s financial well-being , image and visibility throughout broadcast regions and online.
