Position Summary  

Teach INDES 262 Introduction to Revit with a primary focus on interior design applications. Students successfully completing Introduction to Revit should be able to use Revit Architecture workflow and interface in various interior design-related scenarios, including: file transfers with industry-standard software packages; managing software and resources to place and visually communicate interior design elements, materials, structural components, and construction details; creating two-dimensional scale drawings and three-dimensional design visualizations using Enscape; applying architectural graphic conventions, managing drawing sets and model properties, and sharing output via digital and printed formats; applying discipline-specific language and graphic standards to effectively communicate interior building construction details, specifications, project requirements, and design solutions with members of allied disciplines. The instructor is responsible for a comprehensive and relevant overview of Revit Architecture for interior design; teaching a twice-weekly, 3 hour and 20 minute class in online, classroom, or hybrid mode; preparing and/or curating online tutorials; creating learning experiences and assignments that promote practice and incremental skill-building; grading assignments within one week of their submittal; being available to meet with students for a limited time outside of class; and responding to student inquiries in a timely manner. Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $6050.02 - $7375.17. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter. 

In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

About the Department  

Bellevue College has one of the largest interior design programs in the state of Washington. The CIDA-accredited program provides students with a broad foundation in fine arts and design, skill-based practice, and critical thinking experiences. The curriculum offers rigorous and varied methods of design investigation, including exposure to a variety of interior project types and relevant design problems. Our program currently enrolls over 300 full- and part-time students, historically graduating an average of 30 to 50 students per year. The program attracts students with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, with half of our students employed while they are enrolled, and many returning students who are preparing for or reacting to career or life changes. Currently, we have 4 full-time faculty members and many talented adjunct instructors, all with diverse academic backgrounds and practice-based experience, and a dedication to student success.

Essential Functions  
  • Conduct equitable teaching and promote learning excellence in the Interior Design department via grounded, online, or hybrid course delivery.
  • Foster a positive and caring learning community where diversity and pluralism are advanced.
  • Promote strong fundamental skills, creative confidence, and critical thinking through a variety of applied and project-based learning methods.
  • Provide timely verbal and written assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain weekly office hours, and respond promptly to student inquiries about coursework and classroom-related questions.
  • Regularly review and update course curriculum to ensure currency of information, appropriate pedagogy, and implementation of student learning outcomes that achieve CIDA accreditation standards.
  • Use quarterly student feedback to continually improve instruction and student success.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills in teaching the assigned subject, in interior design practice, and in cultural versatility.
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate with Interior Design program chair and other instructors to support overall program success.
  • Participate in all College-required faculty training.
  • Support the college's Pluralism and Diversity initiative and Student Success initiative by integrating related concepts into class activities and departmental programs.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Baccalaureate degree in interior design, architecture, interior architecture, environmental design, or industrial design.
  • 2 years of professional experience in interior design, architecture, interior architecture, environmental design, or industrial design.
  • Expertise using Revit Architecture and how it integrates with other industry-standard digital design media.
  • Project-based Revit expertise with mid- to large-scale commercial or mixed-use interior design projects, including interior construction details and specifications, interior FF&E selection and specification, and visual communication. 
  • Experience using emerging communication tools for online and virtual collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Experience teaching in a multi-cultural college setting, or workplace supervision/training.
  • Project-based experience with programming, concept development, schematic design, or design development. 
  • Mastery of digital design media, graphic communication, or emerging visualization and presentation techniques
  • NCIDQ certification
  • LEED-AP accreditation
  • Familiarity with Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) standards, the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification, and their relevance to interior design education and practice.
  • Active affiliation with professional and/or academic design organizations
  • Experience with projects that incorporate design sustainability, or involvement with industry standard organizations and certifications (e.g. Green Building Council, Living Futures Institute, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, etc.).
