Position Summary  

The KBCS Morning News Board Operator/Announcer will operate a radio broadcast control board during a live broadcast of a syndicated talk show that airs between 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
 

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $21.00/hour.

The successful candidate is expected to work 19.75 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month. Eligible positions are eligible for certain benefits.

About the Department  

KBCS Radio is Bellevue College's Non-Commercial Educational Radio station located on the main campus of Bellevue College in Bellevue, WA. KBCS is a community radio station that features local music and news programming and provides volunteer opportunities for citizens and students to produce and host music programs on KBCS and to work in our highly respected news department as a news producer.

91.3 KBCS-FM-HD1, and World News Radio KBCS-HD2 are radio broadcast services of Bellevue College and are broadcast across the greater Puget Sound region from the main campus of Bellevue College in Bellevue, WA.

Essential Functions  
  • Host will prepare and announce brief local news breaks, traffic, underwriting announcements, and weather updates during program breaks.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Previous experience working as a live radio news reporter/announcer and operating a radio console control board.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with station staff, volunteers, and students in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working as an on-air news reporter and radio console board operator at either a noncommercial or commercial radio broadcast station.
