Position Summary
Are you passionate about creative projects and have experience working with students? Are you a continuous learner and like helping with workshop planning? Do you like learning new tools, helping others to succeed while operating equipment for creative projects? You may be the perfect fit for this part-time MakerSpace Assistant position.
The ideal candidate is a strong team player, highly organized and independent problem-solver, as well as meticulous, thorough, and disciplined. They enjoy working with different customers (students and faculty), can juggle multiple priorities, and work at a faster-than-average pace. This person is high-energy, outgoing, enthusiastic, and connects easily with others.
The RISE Learning Institute's MakerSpace is a collaborative work space where BC students build and share their own creations while exploring and mastering new techniques and technologies. The MakerSpace Assistants play key roles in helping shape this exciting space. The core technologies for the MakerSpace include, but are not limited to; 3D printing, laser cutting, arduino and raspberry Pi, costumes and cosplay, soldering and circuits. MakerSpace Assistants are supervised by the RISE Associate Director and STEM Liaison. This is a temporary student only position.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePay rate: $18.68/hour - $24.70/hour
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $19/hour. The successful candidate is expected to work 6-12 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.
This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits. Student employees are entitled to begin accruing paid sick leave from the start of their employment.

About the DepartmentThe RISE Learning Institute, a part of the Connected Learning Division, works across Bellevue College and with the surrounding community to provide opportunities for students to learn through experiences, with the goal of helping them identify, articulate, build, and apply strengths. RISE builds cross campus collaborations, innovative programs, and community connections to prove transformative learning experiences for students. By fostering Research, Innovation, Service, and Experiential Learning (RISE), the RISE Institute helps students develop skills that can help them succeed during and after their time at Bellevue College.
Essential Functions- Helping RISE staff and BC faculty plan and conduct workshops
- Provide tours of the space
- Answer student questions and assist students who are engaged in creative projects
- Become qualified to use MakerSpace equipment and train student/visitors to use it properly
- Supervising "Open Build" times: verifying that students are proficient using the equipment and making sure that they are using the tools and equipment safely
- Manage inventory of supplies, organize supplies, create purchase lists
- Maintain equipment
- Planning and creating social media content and other marketing materials for the MakerSpace
- Researching best practices at other collegiate makerspaces and making recommendation for future programming to engage a wide range of diverse student groups
- Other duties as assigned
- At the time of hire, students must:
- Be in good standing with Student Conduct.
- Works well with other students, staff, and faculty on collaborative projects.
