Position Summary  

The Reader in Computer Science course will assist a disabled student directly by reading material out loud to the student including class readings, PowerPoints, assignment instructions and questions, test questions, and other course material. The schedule for the position will be based on student and reader's availability. The majority of the reading can take place online using Teams or Zoom, but some in-person hours at Bellevue College may be needed. The ideal candidate for this position should have experience in Computer Science and successfully completed CS 210 at BC or the equivalent. They should also be reliable, responsible and patient.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Pay rate: $25/hour - $30/hour

The successful candidate is expected to work 10 - 19 hours per week. This position typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment. 

The temporary hourly employment is limited to the earlier of 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months beginning from the original date of hire. Per WAC 357-04-045, following 1,050 hours or 12 consecutive months, an individual is not eligible for re-employment at Bellevue College in another temporary part-time hourly position. Temporary hourly employees who work more than three hundred fifty (350) hours in a twelve consecutive month period may be subject to provisions of one the collective bargaining agreements covering Classified employees at Bellevue College.  

This position is expected to NOT be eligible for benefits because eligibility is limited only to employees working at least an average of 80 hours in eligible employment for more than 6 consecutive months and at least 8 hours a month.

About the Department  

The Disability Resource Center provides disability accommodations to disabled students according federal and state law. This ensures that disabled students have equal access to all of the services and benefits of education at Bellevue College. The Disability Resource Center reports to the Dean of Student Support in the Student Affairs division. 

Essential Functions  
  • Read aloud/ narrate verbatim specific course materials in CS 210 to student directly either over online meeting or in person
  • Describe visual information out loud to the student
  • Re-read information as needed when asked to by the student
  • Read aloud verbatim test questions during student¿s exam (in person)
     
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Ability to read Computer Science content out loud to a student
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to maintain a specific schedule through December 12th, 2025
  • Ability to meet online or in-person
  • Successful completion of Computer Science 210 or equivalent
     
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Experience working with disabled people
