Position Summary
The Retail Clerk 1 is responsible for delivering excellent customer service to our college campus and community, providing an essential function in the success of our retail sales, clerical work, food and drink preparation, and other duties related to operation of a retail store or food counter, while also working with the highest level of food safety.
This is a full-time 8 to 10-month cyclical position.
Pay, Benefits & Work SchedulePosition Salary Range: $3,033/month - $4,002/month.
The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. This is a 8 to 10-month cyclical position and actual annual wage will be prorated during cyclical periods.
We offer comprehensive compensation package with salary and benefits as the main components. Competitive salary is within the Range stated above, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This is a Classified, overtime eligible position and represented by the Washington Public Employee Association of Higher Education (WPEA-HE).

About the DepartmentBellevue College (BC) Food Services serves the college main campus by offering a full service cafeteria, three coffee shops and a Pizza Cafe (Housing) that serve hot food, light snacks, pastries, espresso, tea and beverages.
Essential FunctionsOverseeing Retail Store/Food Counter
- Leads and participates in the cleaning of the cafe and equipment; assures that standards of sanitation and safety are met.
- Leads and participates in the storage and utilization of leftover ingredients and products; rotate stock.
- Participates in large scale preparation and service of food & beverage on assigned shift.
- Assists customers in locating, selecting and purchasing various retail items at the retail store lunch counter, canteen, or coffee shop.
- Prepares and serves coffee, light lunches, sandwiches, and fountain orders.
- Processes on-line orders for in-store pickup or delivery, ensuring accurate and timely order fulfillment.
- Serves as cashier, processing payments, checking cash register receipts, and preparing daily financial reports.
- Checks credit cards and fills orders for delivery to customers.
- Files credit cards and other records and documents and maintains orderly filing system.
- Arranges supplies and merchandise on shelves and in displays.
- Takes physical inventories and keeps inventory records.
- Sets up tables, arranges condiments,
- Performs opening and closing duties for a cash register on a daily basis as required
Coordinating Catering and Events
- Collaborates with the catering manager for event orders.
- Orders supplies and food to meet the specific needs of each event,
- Prepares food items according to established recipes and presentation guidelines
- Coordinates with staff to ensure all catering supplies are complete and ready for use during events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
- At least six (6) months of beverage, food counter, or retail sales experience.
- Be proficient on the Point of Sales system and adhere to proper cash handling procedures and standards with a high level of accuracy.
- Must have King County food handler's permit within 14 days of hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Food values and nutrition.
- Personal hygiene, food handling, sanitation, and safety precautions.
- Care and use of cafe utensils and equipment.
- Record keeping (e.g., inventory).
- Report preparation (e.g., supply levels and usage).
- Demonstrated ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills and ability to follow written and oral instruction.
- Demonstrated effective customer service skills with employees, students, and visitors.
- Experience working with diverse colleagues and students in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
