Position based out of the Bear Lake and Onekama, Michigan

Major Duties / Responsibilities
1. Organize and load materials for assigned work orders to transport to work site.
2. Complete work orders. Carpentry: repair doors, walls, drywall, shelving and other structural elements at store to ensure a safe environment for customers and employees. Plumbing: repair or replace plumbing fixtures, pipes and water supplies to meet health and safety standards. Painting: patch or replace and finish drywall or paneling, paint surfaces. Masonry and Tile: Repair or replace masonry walls or replaces floor or wall tiles. Equipment Maintenance: Install pumps, hoses and other equipment to repair or maintain refrigeration units, plumbing systems and HVAC systems. Ensure all necessary safety procedures are used, such as lock-out tag-out, to complete work orders safely. Roofing: Patch or tar roofs, replace gutters or downspouts. May assist Maintenance Technician in completing larger projects.
3. Prepare maintenance records. Log repairs or replacement of equipment such as pumps, refrigeration units, blowers, fans or other operating equipment. Maintain inventory records of all parts and supplies.
4. Follow all safety and work procedures. Complete training and updates in required training periods.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED is required.   Formal training in maintenance trades is preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience in one or more general trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, etc.)
  • General knowledge of building maintenance trades combined with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A valid Michigan driver's license and clean driving record are required.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week.
  • Must be available for emergency call-in work.
  • Physical Requirements:   Requires the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds in order to set materials for specific work orders.  Must able to ascend and descend step ladders and extension ladders.  Must be able to travel to work sites throughout the assigned region.

PRINCIPAL CHALLENGES

Typical Problems:

Ensuring that all necessary materials and tools are available at the work site. 

 

Most Complex Problems:

Finding additional problems not described in a work order and deciding whether the project can be completed or must be re-planned.

 

DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

Typical decisions (total authority)

Uses knowledge of company facilities, inventory and work standards to prepare tools and materials for each assigned work order.

 

Other decisions (referred for approval)

Work that cannot be completed to specifications, or projects that change in scope are referred to the Maintenance Manager.
