BMC Helix Inc. is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to lead our legal function across North America. This leadership role offers a significant opportunity for career growth within a dynamic, international, and fast-paced technology company.
As the Senior Legal Counsel managing the North America region, you will oversee a team of legal professionals and provide strategic legal guidance to the sales organization and business units across the US and Canada. You will work closely with senior leadership, cross-functional teams, and external counsel to manage complex legal matters, ensuring compliance and mitigating risk in a highly regulated and evolving market.
This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent business acumen, and the ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders. Experience managing legal teams is required, and working with federal government contracts will be highly valued.
Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success: 
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to senior leadership on a broad spectrum of legal matters, including negotiating and concluding business transactions with customers, structuring commercial agreements, and supporting business development initiatives.
  • Formulate and implement legal strategies that align with the organization's objectives and mitigate potential risks.
  • Identify and assess legal risks associated with business operations and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Lead and mentor the North America legal team, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring professional development.
  • Manage day-to-day legal operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in legal processes.
  • Lead negotiations for complex contracts including SaaS agreements, licensing, support, consulting services, and government contracts and strategic partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain contract management systems to ensure timely execution and compliance.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance legal knowledge and compliance awareness across the organization.
  • Provide mentorship to junior legal staff, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Stay abreast of legal developments, industry trends, and best practices to ensure the legal team remains at the forefront of legal and technological advancements.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve legal processes, workflows, and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Encourage a mindset of continuous improvement within the legal team, promoting innovation and adaptability in a rapidly changing legal landscape.
To ensure you are set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:
  • Admission to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction with a minimum 10 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in-house within a technology company or law firm with experience managing legal teams.
  • You have proven expertise in technology contracts, government contracts (US Federal and state and local), and compliance matters.
  • You have a strong understanding of GSA Schedules, FARs, DFARs, the US federal acquisition process, and state/local procurement process
  • You have experience and/or familiarity with U.S. export law compliance.
  • You have strong leadership and people management skills with experience supervising legal professionals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, global, and fast-paced environment.

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 

The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.

At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $168,075 - $280,125
