Join Our Team as Security Solution Engineer – Mainframe Presales
Flexible Location: Poland, Ireland or Spain
Are you passionate about solving complex IT challenges and helping customers leverage cutting-edge mainframe solutions? As a Solution Engineer at BMC Software, you'll provide technical expertise, IT process consulting, and hands-on support to enterprise customers, ensuring they maximize the value of BMC's solutions.
A solid understanding of z/OS fundamentals is required, with experience in major subsystems such as CICS and Db2 being an advantage. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll play a key role in engaging with clients throughout the sales and implementation process.
Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Presales Support – Provide technical expertise throughout the sales cycle, helping customers understand the value and capabilities of BMC's solutions.
  • Customer Engagement – Participate in sales calls, handle technical inquiries, and articulate how BMC's solutions compare to the competition.
  • Needs Assessment & Solution Alignment – Gather business and technical requirements, assess feasibility, and collaborate with sales teams to define effective solution strategies.
  • Custom Demonstrations – Design, build, and deliver compelling product demonstrations tailored to customer needs. Assist colleagues in developing impactful demos.
  • Proposal & RFP Responses – Research, craft, and deliver RFP responses, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with client needs.
  • Software Implementation & Support – Install production and beta versions of BMC solutions at customer sites and provide hands-on technical support.
  • Industry Events & Thought Leadership – Represent BMC at seminars, tradeshows, and technical presentations, including managing equipment setup and demos.
  • Technical Documentation & Reporting – Maintain accurate status reports, time usage reports, and expense reports as required.
What You'll Bring to the Role:
Core Qualifications:
  • Education & Experience – Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Processing, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Mainframe Expertise – 10+ years of experience in z/OS systems or major subsystems (STORAGE, IMS, CICS, Db2, etc.).
  • IBM Utility Proficiency – Hands-on experience with standard IBM utilities, RACF commands, and SMP/E.
  • Security & Access Control – Understanding of CA Top Secret, CA ACF2, and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
  • Scripting & Automation – Ability to write and modify REXX scripts, with knowledge of Assembler and JCL being advantageous.
  • Operating Systems & Networking – 5+ years of experience managing Windows, Unix, and Linux environments, including security and networking.
  • Software & Development Tools – Exposure to Splunk Enterprise, batch files, and programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Python, and JavaScript (preferred but not required).
  • Networking & Security – Strong foundational knowledge of networking and security concepts, along with experience in system diagnostics and debugging.
  • Technical Sales & Communication – 3+ years of sales or technical sales experience with strong presentation, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Teamwork & Autonomy – Ability to thrive in both team-based and independent work environments.
  • Language Proficiency – Fluency in German & English is required.
  • Willingness to Travel – Up to 40% travel required.
  • Digital certificate experience would be a plus with the momentum of the Venafi product

The annual base salary range represents the low and high end of the BMC salary range for this position. Actual salaries depend on a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training, licensure, and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. 
The range listed is just one component of BMC's employee compensation package. Other rewards may include a variable plan and country specific benefits.
At BMC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at /near the top of the range. A reasonable estimate of the current range is zł 150,000 - zł 250,000
