BMC is seeking an experienced Senior Product Developer to join the IMS Data Management R&D team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining modern mainframe solutions for BMC's IMS product portfolio, taking senior-level ownership under the guidance of architects and product leadership.
The IZOT IMS Data Management R&D team develops and maintains world-class solutions that help the largest global organizations efficiently manage their IMS environments, keeping their data, workloads, and business applications available, scalable, and reliable.
Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:
• Design and develop scalable, high-quality mainframe solutions for IMS Data Management products. • Take senior-level ownership of feature development, driving delivery from design through testing and release. • Work closely with cross-functional teams including software architects, developers, quality analysts, and product managers to iteratively design and deliver solutions. • Investigate and resolve complex customer issues, contributing to fixes and product improvements. • Mentor junior developers and drive knowledge sharing through design reviews and technical documentation. • Participate in code reviews and ensure best practices are followed. • Interact with customers and end users to understand their needs and translate those needs into innovative solutions. • Stay updated with emerging technologies and implement best practices, including AI-assisted development tooling. • Manage a mixed workload of new feature development, product maintenance, and customer support in a fast-paced Agile environment.
To ensure you're set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in mainframe software development. • Strong experience in z/OS Assembler, JCL, VSAM, JES2/3, SDSF, ISPF. • Strong experience in at least one DBMS (IMS/DB2). • Strong experience in z Enterprise Architecture and z/OS Internals. • Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills on z/OS, familiar with dumps, traces, and diagnostic tooling. • Familiarity with SMP/E, PTF packaging, and IBM APAR processes. • Familiarity with Git or mainframe SCM tools (e.g., ISPW) and Jira/Agile methodology. • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work across time zones with distributed teams. • Proven ability to lead technical delivery independently at a senior level of ownership.
Preferred / Desirable Skills (Good to Have): • Exposure to BMC IMS product portfolio is a plus. • Experience using Cursor AI or GitHub Copilot for code generation, debugging, or investigation tasks. • Familiarity with Generative AI concepts and Agentic AI frameworks -- ability to contribute to AI-driven product use cases is a strong plus. • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, or automated testing frameworks. • Knowledge of z/OSMF or related IBM tooling. • Understanding of modern web technologies, useful for understanding the full product stack.
