Description

Job Description:

The Director will lead the strategic development and management of identity-based Affinity Groups and other communities in our Alumni Belonging pillar. Affinity Groups are alumni communities that form around identities including cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, and disability experiences. These communities offer a way for diverse and historically underrepresented alumni to build lifelong connections with the University community around a shared identity.

The Alumni Belonging Pillar builds and supports an ecosystem of communities based on identity, affinity, and shared interests that speak to the multiplicity and intersectionality of the alumni community's lived experiences, interests, and needs. The team nurtures and grows a culture of belonging for alumni and their parents, family, and friends by promoting the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, in all areas of alumni engagement programming.

This role will lead a team of 2+ staff members in developing and implementing a strategic plan focused on expanding engagement and fostering a greater sense of belonging for our Affinity Group communities and our diverse and historically underrepresented/underserved alumni communities.

The Director will serve as a staff liaison to various affinity group communities and oversee team members who liaise with these and other communities within the scope of the Alumni Belonging pillar. The Director will work with and support Affinity Group volunteer leaders in their endeavors to engage and support their communities.  Additionally, this role will oversee the creation and execution of volunteer training, stewardship, and recruitment strategies.

This position will oversee the development of tailored programming for our diverse and historically underrepresented/underserved constituencies, partnering with colleagues in Alumni Relations and Advancement on targeted events and communications. Additionally, the Director will work closely with University stakeholders, including identity centers like the Brown Center for Students of Color, to implement alumni-student Affinity Group programming and identify opportunities for new initiatives.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Alumni Belonging, the director will also work closely with the senior director and the Vice President of Alumni Relations to support the implementation of a comprehensive Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging engagement agenda for the department.

Brown University is committed to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity and an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
