Central Electric Power Cooperative is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Electric Meter Technician.

Position Summary:  Installs and maintains Central's metering and communications equipment. Responsibilities include installation, testing and verification of Central-owned metering for members Industrial and Substation/Wholesale accounts.  Work is performed in the metering office when repairing, programming, and testing meters.  Work is conducted in the field when performing meter testing and verification of instrument transformers and installing metering and communications equipment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Install and maintain electric Transmission, Distribution, and Distributed Generation Metering/Communication Systems.
  2. Inspects meters and instruments for proper wiring connections.
  3. Use tools & various types of test equipment required to install, test, and calibrate single-phase and three-phase meters, working independently or with personnel from Member cooperatives.
  4. Proficiently use a computer to program, interrogate and troubleshoot electric metering devices and communications equipment.
  5. Possess a high level of accuracy to maintain precise documentation of daily work transactions, site records and test reports when MV90 data is changed.
  6. Develop and maintain relationships with Members to provide support and information that pertain to their metering points.
  7. Install and maintain communications devices by working closely with the Administrator of Metering Services to ensure daily and on-demand communications.
  8. Ability to verify and communicate information for Member Cooperatives and Cooperative Members using various meter programs.
  9. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
  10. Attend Training and Educational/Trade conferences as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Knowledge of power system supply and delivery is desired.

Employees are required to use appropriate safety equipment, PPE, and follow safety procedures in performing assignments.

Knowledge of using various programs to program, test, repair, or calibrate electric meters.

Knowledge of instrument transformer operations, connections, uses of, and hazards involved with these.

Skill in reading schematic diagrams and wiring layouts.

Knowledge of Communications and IP Networks is helpful.

Knowledge of Radian test equipment.

Good interpersonal and oral communication skills are desired - A large part of this job is working with the Member Cooperatives and their Members, both industrial and residential, to analyze and resolve electrical issues.

Education and Work Experience:

5 years prior experience required.
