As an Assistant Deputy Director (ADD), you will be a member of the Education Leadership team who reports to and supports the Deputy State Director (DSD) to drive the excellence of our K-12 network of schools' academic performance, operations, educational programs and CSUSA's core educational strategies. The ADD supervises, with oversight from the DSD, all regional operations personnel within their assigned region.
Position Description
The Assistant Deputy Director will assist the DSD in supporting and coaching principals and leadership in areas such as curriculum and instruction, accountability and assessment, and further support school improvement within their assigned portfolio as well as work collaboratively with the Deputy State Director (DSD) in order to implement our premier educational model focused on data-driven instruction and student achievement. The Assistant Deputy Director will support a culture of constant improvement and serve as inspirational leader, committed to educational and operational excellence and attaining the highest student performance and growth outcomes. The Assistant Deputy Director will assist the DSD in providing guidance and support to principals, assistant principals, and state team members to help them reach high levels of achievement. Under the leadership of the DSD, the Assistant Deputy Director will work with the principals, assistant principals, state team, regional team, and the national team to support systems and processes that meet the needs of the specific area. The DSD and the Assistant Deputy Director will work together to create a culture of performance results, accountability, and excellence within each area within the state. The Assistant Deputy Director will be knowledgeable of their state specific Department of Education (DOE) policies and procedures in all academic areas, school operations, mandated State reports, teacher and principal evaluations and accountability frameworks that determine school performance. The Assistant Deputy Director shall also be knowledgeable of federal statutes that impact academic programs and services within their assigned state as well as support operations, strategic development, and further support school improvement within their assigned state.
How You Will Impact Education
Instruction/Education Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Monitor, disaggregate, use, and provide existing data appropriately to diagnose and assess school needs.
- Increase schools' capacity to seek, critically assess, and selectively incorporate new ideas and practices.
- Guide schools in tailoring instruction to meet individual needs.
- Collaborate in creating Professional Learning Communities and Learning Team Meetings / Lesson Study Groups at the school level.
- Develop the capacity of school principals to monitor and improve instruction.
- Monitor the implementation of instructional programming, digital, and blended learning customized to the individual strengths, needs, and aspirations of each learner.
- Monitor the implementation of effective instruction to meet the needs of all students.
- Monitor the implementation of the Education Model within all schools.
- Assist school administrators in using a variety of walk-through templates to help Leadership Teams assess and evaluate how the faculty prepares students for purposeful learning.
- Coach school leadership teams on improving classroom instruction.
- Lead strategic change that continuously elevates the performance of schools and sustains high quality educational programs and opportunities across the Organization.
- Continually assesses and evaluates progress and growth at the school level.
- Direct schools in effectively using data to adjust instruction and informed school improvement decisions.
Talent Development
- Build schools' capacity to support school improvement.
- Provide coaching, support, and professional learning strategies to school principals' and leadership teams to grow as instructional leaders.
- Engage school principals and assistant principals in the evaluation process in ways that facilitate their growth as instructional leaders.
- Guide the organization in designing both principal coaching or mentoring and teacher instructional coaching to address meaningful goals for student learning.
- Create expectations and support to schools within the state.
- Monitor and ensures rigor in the selection, hiring, and retention processes used to identify highly qualified and effective employees.
- Engage in self-development and continuous improvement to facilitate school principals' and leadership teams in growth as instructional leaders.
- Provide training on data analysis and curriculum alignment.
- Collaboratively work with the Assistant Deputy team to identify, create and deliver effective professional development that is aligned across the state to our Deans.
- Work with school principals' and instructional leaders to overcome the barriers to change (e.g., structures, skills, systems, supervisors).
- Supervise and evaluates performance of assigned school principals and assistant principals as well as provides input into the evaluation of instructional team members.
- Implement and monitors leadership advancement pathways.
- Direct, oversees and evaluates each principal's performance in terms of the school's productivity in achieving CSUSA strategic goals.
- Work with principals and teachers in his/her portfolio to identify expertise and support services necessary for staff development to meet their identified needs.
- Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.
Customer Service Culture
- Facilitate shaping and changing the prevailing culture in schools.
- Build a culture of pride, trust, and respect.
- Monitor an effective approach to bullying prevention.
- Align new and existing community and parent partnerships for the state.
- Help schools, parents, students, teachers, and the community make critical use of data with the result being improved school-wide cultures.
- Keep Deputy State Director informed of critical issues and incidents.
- Develop collegial relationships within the organization and works collaboratively with other area directors.
- Monitor systemic customer service in the schools.
- Manifest a professional code of ethics and values.
- Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic manner representing CSUSA in a positive light.
- Keep the Deputy State Director informed of current state-wide issues and incidents about which he/she and the State Superintendent should be aware.
Operational Excellence
- Implement rigorous project management, structures, protocols, and processes.
- Model the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
- Oversee and manages all operations and functions of the schools in his/her portfolio consistent with organizational goals.
- Maintain visibility in schools and community for the effective operation of the schools and the effectiveness of employees.
- Follow the organizations policies and procedures.
- Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
- Communicate and coordinates with LEA on deadlines and requirements due.
- Maintain grant compliance and financial management.
- Communicate directly and regularly with CSUSA schools implementing corrective action plans.
- Maintain accountability-reporting schedule and communicate requirements to functional areas and schools.
- Communicate with key stakeholders effectively on accountability issues.
- Support new operational and educational solutions and innovation in the organization.
Finance, Grants & HR
- Ensure the region's financial health by maximizing regional resources and utilizing school budgets/grants to provide the highest quality education to our students first and foremost.
- Work with the DSD regarding school leadership that includes hiring, transferring, promotions, and terminations/retirement.
- Lead professional development of regional team and education leadership, as assigned.
- Assign training, duties, and projects to various team members.
IT
- Oversee the region's IT services to ensure the schools are properly outfitted with the technology needed to ensure our students' and staff's success.
Marketing & Enrollment
- Coordinate and manages internal marketing and customer service (communication, red carpet training, even coordination, PTC oversight, school highlights to media, etc.).
- Hold school leaders accountable for meeting regional enrollment targets.
- Ensure schools are compliant with regional enrollment reporting and maximizing allowable funding.
- Work with Enrollment Managers to track and monitor regional enrollment data.
- Collaborate with marketing team to execute regional & school marketing strategies designed to build awareness and boost enrollment and retention.
- Prepare a variety of regional reports, analysis, and solutions to drive enrollment and retention.
Governance
- Participate in pre-board calls for region.
- Review and approve monthly principal board reports.
- Follow up with new leaders after the pre-board call.
- Attend and support regional CSUSA board meetings.
Facilities
- Oversee the region's facilities' services to ensure the schools are maintained in such a way that encourages student learning and success.
Local Decision Making
- Participate as needed in meetings with various departments, committees, boards, groups, and parents about matters pertaining to the area.
- Model collaborative planning and shared decision making.
Equity
- Assist the Deputy State Director in ensuring that the schools in the state are culturally/socially responsive and have equitable access to resources necessary for the success of each student.
- Use evidence of school principals' effectiveness to determine necessary improvements in practice to foster a positive educational environment that supports the diverse cultural and learning needs of students.
Resource Optimization
- Monitor and assists with the Florida Professional Development Evaluation Protocol (FPDEP).
- Use the power of strategizing rather than focusing upon one single strategy; seeks continual feedback, reshaping plans and working with changes as a process rather than a product.
- Model the effective implementation of resource optimization including programmatic decisions based on program evaluation or return on investment.
- Establish expectations by setting ambitious enrollment targets for the area
- Provide support and coaching to principals' and instructional team members on increasing enrollment and increasing the recommit rates.
- Plan, organizes, implements, and evaluates professional development necessary to support principals and teachers.

Job Requirements
- Master's degree (MA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
- 3-5 years related experience (in school administration) and /or training.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS), preparing reports and visual presentations.
