European Director Coffee (other dispensed drinks)

THE ROLE

The Merchandising team play a crucial role in achieving the company's objectives by maximizing shop sales and profitability.

This position will develop multiyear strategic plans, foster manufacturer partnerships, collaborate with business units, and establish objectives to accelerate the hot and cold dispensed business with coffee being the primary. While the primary responsibilities for this role are Coffee and other dispensed drinks, the merchandising team work as ‘One Team' and the chosen applicant will be required to work on various projects across total merchandise from time to time.

This role, reporting to Head of European Merchandising (Global Merchandising Team), will require the successful candidate to provide ongoing financial updates, lead key strategic projects, develop capital investment plans for each market, execute merchandising/marketing plans, and work cross functionally with internal teams and key suppliers. Expert in Coffee development end to end is essential, sourcing, operations execution and concept, strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills are essential as the candidate will need to provide ongoing project updates to executive level management and all business units regarding these categories.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

Here are ways that you'll help make journeys better:  

  • Strategic Direction and Focus: Develop a leading strategy to win market share in this Self-service and Served Coffee category and work with Business Units to incorporate best practice ideas.

  • Knowledge & Expertise: Build a robust knowledge of all our coffee markets across the countries we operate in in Europe. Knowledge of coffee equipment, coffee sourcing will be essential as this role will be working cross functionally with Maintenance, sourcing, supply chain and store operations.

  • Consistency for the Customer: Build consistency of the offer in all our European markets focusing on customer first.

  • Innovation: Build strong pipeline of market leading innovation.

  • Capital Investment owner: Lead and execute any current projects in scope for current financial year. Ensuring all capital is spent and tracked in a timely manner and ROI is achieved.

  • External Factors: Provide strategic and tactical guidance around global trends, internal and external best practices, and company performance objectives.

  • Business Financial Performance: Provide updates to the business on key projects, year-end results, business plans for new financial year etc.

  • Communication: Effectively communicate with Business unit VP, Directors and Category managers as needed.

  • Cross Functional work: Work cross‐functionally with teams (private brand, data & analytics, procurement marketing etc.) to diagnose, quantify and address local and/or European sales opportunities, emerging products and categories, and alternative revenue sources.

  • BU Category Meetings & Summits: Lead Monthly Dispensed category management meeting with each BU, driving the strategic focus, projects priorities and business development opportunities at a BU level. Lead and develop annual Category Summits for Europe with content and presentation

  • Upskilling Yourself: Continually increase professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reading professional publications; establishing personal networks; or participating in professional societies.

  • Team: Contribute to team effort by accomplishing Financial and key Result area targets and develop of required presentations.

  • Direct Reports: There is will 1 direct report (Senior Manager for Dispensed Beverages)

  • Performance: Measured both on Financial performance and personal KPI's associated with the role and business targets.

  • Other: Reporting directly to the Head of Merchandising for Europe, she will from time to time include you on development projects as they arise.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED 

We want you to join our team! Here's what we're looking for: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing/ Category Management or Concept Development or related field preferred. 

  • Strong project management skills, including adhering to timelines and meeting management skills.

  • Works easily in multi-business unit project settings; able to facilitate teamwork across corporate boundaries.

  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to quickly synthesize, distill and draw conclusions on large amounts of data.

  • Embraces fact‐based decision making; ability to leverage and/or integrate global best strategies across all category projects.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in leadership role within coffee development or category development, convenience store merchandising, operations, or related fields.

  • Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills are necessary for this position.  

  • Availability to travel: 25 up to 50% across European countries, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia Germany, Luxembourg Belgium and The Netherlands.
