WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Opportunity to join a high-growth, high-caliber team within the Specialized Banking division of City National Bank, an RBC Company. The Portfolio Manager II will play a key part on the Power & Project Finance Team in growing a multi-billion portfolio of high-quality project finance loans and help to develop and implement a product suite of complementary services. The Power & Project Finance Team at CNB is building a relationship-driven business with a focus on credit-quality and superior client service. Our business leverages the strengths of the CNB platform and compliments the existing businesses at RBC to create a comprehensive project finance offering.
CNB is a $100B financial institutional headquartered in downtown Los Angeles, CA. The Power & Project Finance team sits within the Specialty Banking division which houses the bank's most specialized and structured businesses.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Support underwriting and portfolio management activities for all Power & Project Finance business
- Provide coverage of key banking relationships and credit through the underwriting and portfolio management process
- Provide due diligence, structuring recommendations, and in-depth credit analysis for prospective opportunities, new underwrites, and ongoing credit monitoring
- Contribute to the production of credit work, including; underwriting memos, annual reviews, trend cards, construction monitoring, client requests and counterparty reviews
- Oversee the work and support in the education and training of junior colleagues
- Take ownership for the timeliness and assessment of credit on a portion of account names as well as new business accounts
- Manage multiple workflows by providing timely feedback to clients and maintaining a punctual schedule for any ongoing portfolio management activity
- Help to raise the profile of the Power & Project Finance team among market participants and internally with travel and participation in conferences
- Take on projects and initiatives that will further the development of the team and business along its growth plan
- Adhere to the policies, guidelines and desk top procedures of the Power & Project Finance group and the bank more broadly
- Present credit recommendations within the bank's risk appetite and framework and follow the bank's policies, processes, and procedures
- Respond to their clients' credit needs with an elevated level of client service and credit acumen to address their needs appropriately and timely
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Teamwork: Mentors junior colleagues, fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Portfolio Management: Owns and manages an assigned credit portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and risk management practices, including underwriting all types of credit exposures, managing credit risk, and responding to prospective client inquiries.
- Credit Analysis: Analyzes credit data and perform underwriting to assess creditworthiness and recommend appropriate structures to the Sales team and client. Prepare underwriting memorandums and approval documents for presentation to Credit Risk.
- Performance Monitoring: Performs portfolio management activities to monitor and analyze portfolio performance, including periodic reviews and covenant tracking.
- Data Analysis: Analyzes credit data to support underwriting and creditworthiness assessments including developing and presenting individual credit recommendations.
- Risk Management: Practices effective risk management, maintaining high standards of credit quality and origination in alignment with Bank's credit risk appetite, and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration: Partners with Relationship Manager(s) to successfully manage credit account relationships. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive and effective credit operations to achieve the Bank's strategic initiatives. Participate in ad-hoc projects to support the organization's priorities.
- Client Service: Provides exceptional client service by maintaining professionalism and effectively interacting with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored credit solutions. Participate in joint sales pitches with Relationship Manager(s).
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED? Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Finance, Business, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressively increasing credit underwriting and portfolio management experience in relevant industry/industries
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze data, develop a point of view, and make recommendations to senior management
- Strong oral and written communication skills for the documentation and processing of credit actions
- An ability to reach across the organization and develop relationships with colleagues outside of the team in order to facilitate ongoing growth and productivity
- Basic experience in credit management and lending operations, with a strong understanding of risk management principles
- Desire to grow personally and professionally, collaborate with teammates, and contribute to the growth of the business
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? Compensation Starting base salary: $53.56 - $91.22 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
