The City of Edmonton is looking for a creative and community-minded Communications Coordinator to join our Executive Communications team. In this role, you will be a key storyteller, working closely with the City Manager's Office to elevate the impact of various city-wide initiatives. You will serve as an on-the-ground resource, capturing the heartbeat of our city through digital media and engagement activities.
Your day-to-day will involve creating compelling visual and written content, from social media posts and videos to news releases and newsletters. This position requires a balance of technical skill in digital media and the ability to work with people to draw quality content out of them. By gathering information and providing strategic storytelling recommendations, you will help shape the public perception of the City's efforts.
What will you do?
- Design and produce a variety of audio-visual resources to support organizational priorities and strategic focus areas
- Attend events to capture high-quality photography and video for various channels
- Maintain organized digital libraries using required file naming structures
- Create and execute comprehensive communications and promotion plans for digital content
- Draft and review a wide range of documents such as news releases, speaking notes, backgrounders, and web content
- Build and maintain respectful relationships with senior City officials and community partners
- Assist in developing messaging for media, Council, issues management, and internal communications
- Provide recommendations to senior team members on innovative storytelling methods and creative approaches to communication
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Graduation from a two-year college, accredited post-secondary institute, or technical institute program
- Coursework related to communications, public relations, marketing, or journalism
- A minimum of two years of experience in a public relations, communications, public affairs, or public information role
Assets:
- Experience in event or news photography and videography
- Experience in scripting or storyboarding
Skills required for success:
- Proficiency in capturing, editing and processing digital media for social media and other materials
- Experience in video production from planning and shooting through editing and presentation of a final product
- Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Photoshop and Premiere Pro software, to deliver high-quality visual assets
- Strong storytelling abilities with a proven track record of identifying and promoting narrative-driven content
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and engaging copy for diverse audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish inclusive working relationships with staff at all levels
- Working knowledge of marketing, advertising, social media design, event planning, and print production
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and competing deadlines

Work Environment:
- The primary work environment is an indoor office setting, with occasional outdoor work required for event coverage
- The position requires sitting for extended periods (constant frequency) while also requiring occasional standing and walking for community events
- Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
