Are you ready to step into a role that combines hands-on operational oversight with seasonal project management? The Team Leader position offers an exciting and dynamic work schedule, shifting between two key service areas.

From April to October, you will provide supervision and leadership for landscaping crews maintaining turf, shrub beds, and naturalized areas at City facilities including libraries, transit stations, and firehalls.

During the winter months, from November to March, you'll transition to leading weekend shifts overseeing city-wide Active Pathways snow and ice control operations. This is an opportunity to directly influence the quality of our public spaces and winter mobility, ensuring effective service delivery and championing our cultural commitments.

This role is key to ensuring the effective and efficient maintenance and operations of our public assets. You will instruct and lead staff performing a wide variety of manual duties, designing work plans, and ensuring adherence to approved standards and schedules. Success in this role requires a commitment to teamwork, actively encouraging staff consultation and participation in operational decision-making. You will also be the main point of contact for clients, ensuring ongoing satisfaction and communicating work plan progress. This position is integral to cultivating our branch's vision and continuous improvement efforts, all while embodying the cultural commitments of being Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated, and Excellent.

What will you do?

  • Develop seasonal work plans, set priorities, and ensure implementation aligns with standard operating procedures
  • Conduct seasonal staff evaluations and complete seasonal work plan briefings and reports
  • Organize new employee orientation and ensure compliance with safety training and toolbox talks
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to budget compliance
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) requirements
  • Report and provide updates to your supervisor and upper management regarding any safety concerns
  • Manage and inspect internal and external paperwork for completion
  • Accurately track inventory and update necessary spreadsheets (Enviso)
  • Maintain ongoing communication with community partners and internal clients
  • Conduct seasonal meetings to ensure agreed-upon service levels are being met
