We are looking for someone with a comprehensive understanding of the FOIP Act, adept at interpreting legislation and OIPC Orders and applying your knowledge to complex access to information requests. The CAP Office is an environment of high productivity and requires members to move between tasks continuously or carry out multiple duties and responsibilities at the same time. Working in this environment requires you to be prepared for new and sometimes urgent tasks on brief notice.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Accountable for the escalation of complex matters to the CAP leadership team
  • Negotiate with applicants to conclude on an agreed upon scope, or transfer the request to another public body
  • Consider the location of responsive records, contact stakeholders within all levels of the City, ensuring that searches are appropriately documented
  • Consult with City employees on potential sensitivities in responsive records to inform disclosure decisions in accordance with the FOIP Act
  • Review records, legislation, internal procedures, previous mediation files or Orders with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC)
  • Use software to document disclosure decisions in the records, including line by line redactions
  • Prepare fee estimates and make recommendations on fee waiver requests to the delegated FOIP Head
  • Request time extensions internally and to the OIPC
  • Consult externally with third parties such as vendors and contractors and other jurisdictions like the provincial government and police services to inform your decision on disclosure
  • Provide briefings on requests to the City leadership team and escalate complex matters as required
  • Maintain good working relationships in order to effectively resolve complaints and requests for OIPC reviews
  • Perform other related duties as required
