The City of Edmonton is looking for energetic and community-minded individuals to join our team as Customer Service Representatives. This role is the face of our recreation centers and attractions, serving as the primary point of contact for the public. What will you do?

  • Provide exceptional quality service to all internal and external community members via phone, email, and in-person interactions
  • Perform high-volume sales transactions, including memberships, admissions, program registrations, and facility bookings
  • Actively anticipate and identify the needs of visitors to provide relevant information and appropriate support
  • Ensure the protection of City assets through diligent and accurate cash handling and adherence to security protocols
  • Execute opening and closing procedures to ensure the front counter is prepared and the facility opens on time for the public
  • Use interpersonal techniques to de-escalate difficult situations and enhance the overall experience for community members
  • Respond to emergency and first aid situations by applying established safety protocols and maintaining situational awareness
  • Other related duties as required
Qualifications

  • Completion of a Grade 12 High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in customer service or sales
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience in cash handling

Assets:

  • Experience working in a recreation or public attraction setting
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) equipment and registration software

Skills required for success:

  • Proficiency in Google Applications (Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Sheets) to manage daily administrative tasks
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal courteously and tactfully with staff and community members
  • Effectively responds to emergencies by maintaining situational awareness, applying safety protocols, and administering first aid
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions to ensure compliance with safety standards

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Valid Intermediate First Aid, CPR level C and AED certifications are requirements of this position
  • Facilities are open 7 days a week and 17 or more hours per day. Shifts vary based on facility operating hours with evening and weekend work required
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • Note: Due to the nature of this work, this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • Duties are performed primarily in indoor recreation and attraction facilities
  • Assignments may include outdoor pool locations which are exposed to fluctuating weather conditions
  • The role involves frequent standing, walking, and constant public interaction
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states
