Description

The City of Edmonton's Affordable Housing and Homelessness Section works to ensure there are adequate, safe, and affordable housing options for all Edmontonians and coordinates the City's response to homelessness. Working with the Homelessness Response and Prevention team, this position plays a pivotal part in preventing homelessness by providing system-level coordination for tenants at risk of housing loss within the City's Problem Property Initiatives. 

As a Housing Stability Coordinator, you will be instrumental in fostering strong relationships with internal and external partners, including various City of Edmonton business areas, community stakeholders, and other levels of government. You will contribute to the development and redesign of services, programs, and projects aimed at preventing homelessness, working as part of a dynamic homelessness prevention and response team. A key aspect of your role will involve the execution and management of contracts with service providers and social agencies, ensuring compliance and reporting on outcomes. Your contributions will also extend to the development of policies, plans, and strategies that inform the City's homelessness prevention activities. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive reporting on the support provided to those in problem properties, including the preparation of reports, memos, briefing notes, and other necessary communications. 

What will you do?

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to build system-wide capacity for a collective and coordinated response to problem properties and improve housing outcomes. Partners include other orders of government, community stakeholders, including the homeless system of care, EPS, Peace Officers, and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services
  • Contribute to the creation and improvement of programs aimed at preventing homelessness, assess their effectiveness, and implement continuous improvement strategies
  • Participate in the creation and enhancement of programs and projects aimed at preventing homelessness
  • Oversee all aspects of contracts with service providers, ensuring compliance, performance measurement on outcomes, and budget management
  • Establish criteria for program evaluation and assist in developing and implementing program monitoring, performance evaluation, and other evaluation tools
  • Facilitate an effective governance structure, including agenda, documentation (Memorandum of Understanding, Terms of Reference), and decision-making models. Implement processes to improve service delivery and effectiveness of the Safe Housing program, aligned with the Homelessness and Housing Services Plan
  • Assist in developing policies and strategies, and prepare reports and communication for internal and external audiences, such as council reports, briefing notes, presentations, and evaluation summaries
  • Represent the City at community meetings and contribute to public communications regarding issues of homelessness and housing
