The Landlord & Tenant Consultant is a key member of the City's homelessness prevention team, offering you a unique opportunity to empower citizens by guiding them through residential tenancy issues. The Landlord & Tenant Consultant plays an integral role in supporting vulnerable Edmontonians who are precariously housed or at-risk of homelessness. This position focuses primarily on eviction prevention and improving the relationships between residential tenants and their landlords through various services, including the provision of information, advice, and support in-person or by phone, referrals to other social services, system navigation assistance, mediation, and educational programming. 

 

What will you do?

  • Provide guidance and mediation services to address citizens' tenancy issues

  • Assess citizens' situations to determine the most effective support needed to resolve their tenancy issues

  • Develop and deliver educational workshops, presentations, and public forums dealing with homelessness prevention or residential tenancy issues 

  • Develop knowledge of and relationships in the system of care for people experiencing homelessness, especially as it relates to homelessness prevention, to make effective and reliable client referrals 

  • Support citizens to improve their housing stability by providing referrals to appropriate resources such as financial assistance, legal services, Alberta Health Services, and other community supports. 

  • Provide mediation support services as needed to help clients reach a resolution 

  • Design and develop public education and other information materials, including pamphlets, fact sheets, newsletters, and presentations 

  • Deliver services directly to clients in person and via phone, at multiple various locations throughout the city

  • Participate in committees, working groups, and communities of practice to build relationships with other resource providers, promote available resources and supports and provide education on residential tenancy issues 

  • Maintain data to evaluate the effectiveness of tenant support services and contribute to continuous improvement activities based on program and service evaluations

  • Other duties as assigned.
