Are you looking to apply your knowledge and skills in land use planning to the review of subdivision proposals across the City of Edmonton? If so, here is your opportunity to be part of the Subdivision and Development Coordination team as a Planning Technician II.

In this position, you will be responsible for receiving, reviewing, and making recommendations to approve or refuse subdivision applications within Edmonton's mature areas as well as condominium conversions from across the city. You will be a key contact for members of the public and the development community providing information and advice related to lot splits and other minor subdivision and condominium applications.

What will you do?

  • Review subdivision and condominium conversion applications, primarily in mature neighbourhoods, for completeness and accept for processing
  • Advise applicants of deficiencies in applications
  • Ensure application fees are calculated appropriately
  • Complete technical review of applications to ensure compliance with the Municipal Government Act, Subdivision and Development Regulation, Condominium Property Act, Condominium Property Regulation, statutory plans, the Edmonton Zoning Bylaw 20001, and other applicable plans, policies and bylaws
  • Seek input from referral agencies
  • Prepare files for the Subdivision Authority in a timely manner
  • Attend subdivision appeal hearings to provide information and to justify subdivision decisions and/or conditions of approval
  • Review subdivision endorsement submissions to confirm conditions have been met
  • Respond to inquiries from the general public, other departments, and the development industry on proposed applications and the status of active applications
  • Provide excellent and professional customer service to the public, community stakeholders, and members of City Council
  • Respond to a high volume of Land Development Inquiries regarding mature neighbourhood subdivisions and condominium conversions, in a timely manner and with accurate information
  • Provide information and interpretation on City of Edmonton bylaws, regulations, and policies as they relate to subdivisions, condominiums, and infill development
  • Conduct site inspections, when necessary
  • Perform related duties as required
