Description

We're seeking a passionate and strategic thinking transportation engineer who understands the connection between policy, action, and results. It will be your job as a Senior Engineer in Urban Planning and Economy to lead studies and develop mobility plans to support the development and implementation of a The City Plan, Edmonton's combined Municipal Development Plan and Transportation Master Plan. Projects you can look forward to being involved in include Update to Edmonton's household travel survey, transportation network analysis in support of mass transit planning including BRT and LRT route confirmation, parking strategy implementation, and goods movement strategy update. You will work with branch leadership and a multi-disciplinary team of professional engineers, planners, and technologists to further your projects.

Well developed listening, negotiation, and collaboration skills as well as a proficiency in written and verbal communication are necessary. What will you do:

  • Develop complex, strategic engineering and related studies for the planning and assessment of Edmonton's multi-modal transportation network including identification of order of magnitude of costs, assessment of constructibility and identification of preferred network development options
  • Perform current and future state analysis which will include analyzing traffic and transportation patterns, identification of network gaps and constraint assessments
  • Lead research and develop policies that will support the implementation of The City Plan
  • Lead complex studies including  project management activities, managing multiple staff members, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and presenting results in written and oral form to senior leadership
  • Proactively review policy, literature and current best practice for transportation planning and engineering
  • Analyze and evaluate policies for continued support or modification; this includes the evaluation of travel data, traffic safety data, land use economics and health data
  • Review and recommend engineering design elements into engineering standards. Assist in development of engineering cross-sections
  • Represent the section, branch, department or City as a part of committees or projects
  • Manage, supervise and mentor project engineers, technologists and/or technicians
  • Oversee and approve the work of staff including technical oversight and guidelines
  • Perform related duties as required
