Join a team dedicated to shaping the future of Edmonton through impactful land development and urban design. This role offers the opportunity to lead professional planning staff while navigating complex files that define the city's growth and sustainability.

As a Senior Planner, you lead a team of professionals in managing major land development applications, statutory plans, and policy amendments. You act as a primary representative at Council and Committee meetings, ensuring that development decisions align with The City Plan and professional planning standards.

What will you do?

  • Lead and supervise a team of planners, technicians, and students by assigning work, providing direction, and overseeing the quality of deliverables
  • Direct recruitment, performance management, coaching, and staff development initiatives
  • Present professional recommendations and information to City Council, the Senior Management Team, and various committees
  • Manage complex land use bylaw applications, rezonings, and plan amendments
  • Facilitate engagement with community partners and interested and/or affected parties to resolve conflicts and improve service levels
  • Provide expert planning advice on corporate-level projects involving transportation, infrastructure, and economic development
  • Oversee the development of engagement and communication plans for major projects
  • Identify and implement process improvements for development permitting and business systems
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning or a closely related discipline
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal, intermunicipal, or regional planning
  • Supervisory experience managing professional staff

Assets:

  • Training in public administration, local governance, or leadership
  • Certifications in project management, change management, or public participation
  • Experience presenting to Councils or public authority boards
  • Private sector experience in land development or policy development

  • Political acumen and awareness of the municipal environment

Work Environment:

  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
  • Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week

Salary Range: $57.675 - $72.849 (Hourly)
