
Description
The Site Services Supervisor provides active leadership, guidance and supervisory responsibilities in the administration of all site operations and maintenance functions at the Edmonton Valley Zoo (EVZ) and associated facilities within the Arts Heritage & Nature Experiences Section including the John Janzen Nature Centre (JJNC), City Arts Centre (CAC), Prince of Wales Armouries (POWA) and John Walter Museum (JWM). Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this position sets the direction for annual and long term operational and site maintenance plans. The position provides oversight to all site services staff for effective, efficient and well maintained grounds and facilities year round.
What you will do:
- This position is responsible for direct supervision of a crew leader (seasonal) and up to 14 front line staff (in crew leader's off season), including recruitment, scheduling, mentoring, coaching, leadership and guidance on work plans and all aspects of performance and attendance management
- Establish and/or maintain effective site services work plans for the Edmonton Valley Zoo & AHNE facilities regarding horticulture, vegetation management, site cleanliness and safety, snow and ice clearing and removal as needed
- Manage and coordinate external services provided by stakeholders, contractors and other City work groups such as facility maintenance services, custodial services, security personnel, food service operators etc.
- Review and evaluate exhibits, service areas and related public access to ensure conditions and appearance adhere to facility expectations
- Support the development and implementation of strategic planning, the annual work plan and program/project planning in collaboration with the Zoo's leadership team and actively participate in high level planning such as master plan(s), capital development projects and implementation plans
- Collaborate with all Zoo internal units to maximize vehicle, equipment and supply resources through effective inventory management processes, robust seasonal planning, regular condition assessments, target utilization rates, avoidance of resource duplication, predictive and preventative maintenance program and replacement as required
- Actively participate in and/or co-lead regular safety meetings, inspections and toolbox talks/tailgate safety discussions; mitigate safety issues as they arise; elevate unsafe work practices for awareness, mitigation and resolution; disseminate all safety related bulletins and advisories to team members
- Support continued implementation of industry best practices pertaining to Zoo & JJNC site operations, maintenance, safety, physical facilities, etc in adherence to CAZA, AZA, and WAZA accreditation standards
- Demonstrate effective and efficient problem solving strategies in a dynamic, fast paced environment
- Ensure all City Occupational Health and Safety Standards and ENVISO policies and procedures are followed
