Description

Do you enjoy physical, hands-on work in building maintenance, construction and using repair tools, trucks and equipment?

Reporting to the Utility Crew Foreperson, you will perform all planned maintenance and on-call tasks to ensure Transit Facilities are properly maintained. Your success will be measured by your ability to work well with the team, take pride in the work you do, and adhere to standards and directions.

What will you do?

  • Perform bus shelter construction, maintenance and repairs: including construction of new shelters, complete overhauls, repairs (replacement of glass, lexan, aluminum panels and components), construction and painting of shelter bases and seats, shelter movement, and bus shelter site preparation
  • Provide parking lot and busway maintenance in the Transit Centers: including asphalt potholes, gravel lot grading, line painting, signage, fence repairs, and seasonal ground maintenance
  • Provide building maintenance in Transit Garages and Centers
  • Provide miscellaneous maintenance and labour duties such as garbage receptacle placement and liner maintenance, and furniture moves
  • Provide snow removal services at Transit facilities
  • Operate various heavy equipment from forklifts, skid steers and loaders to small engine powered equipment such as backpack blowers, pressure washers, chainsaws, etc.
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in general building repairs, maintenance, and labor work

Assets:

  • Building construction with glazing experience
  • Experience safely operating a bobcat and driving one and three-ton trucks with a trailer

Skills required for success:

  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and skillfully and able to measure accurately
  • Must be willing to train as an equipment operator for Tandem trucks, front end loaders, excavator, bobcat, etc.
  • Ability to work safely and courteously in public areas with high pedestrian and vehicle traffic
  • Great interpersonal, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience
  • Ability to work safely and in compliance with City and Department safety standards

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent); Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement must be obtained within 6 months of employment
  • Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
  • Applicants will be required to take a pre-employment Functional Abilities Assessment Evaluation (F.A.R.E. test)
  • Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform work requiring lifting of materials and equipment (50+ lbs)
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments with varying temperatures and weather conditions
  • Manual labour for extended periods in environments with vibration or at heights

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday (Occasional overtime may be required)

Salary Range: $35.136 (Hourly)
