Join our dedicated team as a Wildfire Fuel Labourer II and play a vital role in protecting our natural areas. This physically demanding, hands-on position puts you on the front lines of wildfire fuel management.
You'll be operating equipment, clearing forest debris, assisting with prescribed burns, and mastering the use of chainsaws and hand tools—all while ensuring every task is performed safely and to city standards. What will you do?
- Perform natural area fuel load maintenance and prescribed burn tasks, which may involve physically demanding labour outdoors in all weather conditions
- Removal of wood debris from forest floor, driving and hauling of wood to disposal facilities, hand saw and chain saw fallen trees, pruning, prescribed burn water suppression, carrying supplies to locations, seedling planting, and seed dispersal
- Operate all vehicles and small equipment relevant to the work
- Follow daily assignments from the Crew Leader
- Ensure that all tools, equipment and resources are prepared for daily work and are loaded in vehicles for use
- Provides backfill coverage for crew leaders during absences or vacations as required throughout the season
- Complete all required daily paperwork, such as trip inspections and daily logs, completely and accurately
- Report any incidents, deviations from the work plan, or discrepancies to the Crew Leader
- Perform any field level risk assessments required
- Perform weekly tool maintenance
- Ensure all work performed is done in a safe manner and in accordance with city standards
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and essential safety measures
- Perform other duties as assigned
