Primary Purpose
The Full-Time Temporary Faculty provides instruction to students in the Aviation program, directs student discussion and evaluates student performance in the classroom. In addition, this position develops curriculum, assesses student learning, and provides student advising.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Provide instruction in area of discipline, using approved course outcome guides. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses, online or remotely.
+ Provide student advising and assistance in areas of course selection, career planning, job placement and employment follow-up.
+ Hold at least five scheduled office hours per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
+ Utilize College tools and resources, including the Learning Management System and Disability Services software, to support teaching activities as appropriate.
+ Participate in department meetings, curriculum revision, and course assessment.
+ Engage in regular professional growth activities, remain current in the field, and maintain current credentials or licenses as required by the program.
+ Perform other essential job functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Department Specific
+ Provide academic instruction in the area of aviation, emphasis on fixed and rotor wing (see COCC web site for course descriptions). Full-time classroom teaching requires 45 load units per year, involving 12-40 students per class, approximately 3-4 classes per term. It also includes providing individual conference time to guide and evaluate student progress. Teaching assignments may include courses taught during the day, evening, occasional weekends and/or summers, both on and off campus.
+ As part of the Aviation team of full-time faculty, assist in recruiting students, field inquiries, take prospective students on tours of the Bend airport facilities, and work with the aircraft contractors. Additionally, continuous interaction with the aircraft lessors for purposes of tracking student progress, and monitoring the quality of aircraft availability/ quality is essential for sustainable success of the program.
+ Familiarity with COCC simulator operations, including training of new instructors on simulator policies and procedures.

+ Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office suite: various course management systems; technology to teach traditional, hybrid, or online courses; and other technology used in the instruction setting.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members.

+ Willingness to travel and or teach at various hours and campus locations, as required.

Ergonomic Requirements
Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. Travel throughout the College district as needed. A flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the position responsibilities. The employee is required to meet physical and ergonomic requirements of the program area as this may vary from positions. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
+ A degree or credential appropriate in the field of primary teaching assignment ( AAS , BS, or MS depending on the program); or a minimum of 24 quarter hours (16 semester hours) of credit in the field of the primary teaching assignment.
+ One year of relevant experience working in the field of aviation, such as extensive piloting in commercial or military aviation environment.
+ Demonstrated successful teaching, or evidence for the potential for excellence in teaching.
Special Required Qualifications:
+ 100 hours of flight and/or simulator time within the past 12 months.
