POSITION SUMMARY

  • Registered Nurses provide direct care to patients and are part of all care given by other departments. Registered Nurses must continually strive to provide the highest quality of care possible for the patients. They must also lead the nursing team toward the achievement of the goals of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. High quality care and overall efficiency are essential components to this success.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education and Experience:
    • Previous experience in OB preferred.
  • License/Certificates:
    • Current Minnesota RN License. American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire. American Heart Association ACLS within 4 months of hire. NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E within 1 year of hire.  

      For Charge RN: NRP and PALS required within 1 year of hire.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • RN:
    • Exercises concern for the patient's welfare, maintains knowledge of the patient's condition, administers medication and performs treatment while practicing and maintaining high ethical standards.
    • Responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients assigned to her/him under the guidance of the CNO and/or Nurse Manager.
    • Maintains accurate and complete records of nursing assessments, care and counsels of the patient and family in meeting nursing and related needs.
    • Remains up-to-date on new nursing skills and technology and utilizes the nursing process (observation, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the delivery of care.
    • Performs duties in accordance with physician's orders, the medical center's policies, methods, and techniques, and in coordinating with other departments and personnel.
    • Provides leadership and promotes teamwork.
    • When requested, participates in in-service programs, education programs, and orientation of new personnel.
    • Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
  • Obstetrical RN:
    • Performs maternal-child assessments and care including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and newborn child care.
    • Plans care according to patient acuity needs.
    • Responds appropriately to Code C-section alert.
    • Responds appropriately to Code Pink alert.
  • Charge Nurse:
    • Assess staffing requirement and makes assignments based on acuity and census and ensures adequate and safe staffing for each shift.
    • Handles bed control for admissions, discharges and transfers.
    • Assists and support staff with all levels of patient care delivery, including Medical, Surgical, ICU, OB, and ED.
    • Perform pharmacy duties as appropriate when pharmacist is not available.
    • Coordinate and direct the daily patient care operations for the department of nursing.
    • Analyze workload and skill requirements to meet patient care needs.
    • Assess staff competencies and make patient care assignments.
    • Delegate appropriate tasks to appropriate personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards.
    • Maintain clear communication with the Chief Nursing Officer and Nurse Manager regarding nursing needs and/or incidents.
    • Serve as a resource person in all identified areas.
    • Complete initial individual unit competencies appropriate to charge nurse role.
    • Maintain competency by both seeking out opportunities to work in these areas and completing unit specific ongoing education.
    • Assist with patient care as needed.
    • Identify appropriate internal controls for department; provide mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
    • Act as a facilitator for employee experiencing on the job injuries, connecting them to appropirate resources.
