Job Description Summary
The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research (PAIR) Center is seeking a full-time clinical research coordinator who will be responsible for supporting multiple components of a mixed-methods study aimed at understanding the mechanisms through which financial hardship contributes to poor outcomes and inequitable care experienced by seriously ill adults with acute respiratory failure and their primary family caregivers. The CRC will join a diverse, interdisciplinary team working to improve the lives of people with serious illness and improve health equity across multiple domains. Joanna Hart, MD, MSHP provides faculty leadership of this team.

Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the faculty investigator and the team's project manager, the CRC's primary responsibilities will include conducting screening, recruiting, and consenting participants from hospitals across the University of Pennsylvania Health System, including seriously ill patients from intensive care units; collecting data from the electronic health record; administering baseline and follow-up surveys; conducting interviews with patients, family members, and clinicians; monitoring subject payments; and attending team meetings and collaborating with the rest of the study team. The CRC will also be responsible for various day-to-day study operations including maintaining study databases, compliance with all IRB and regulatory documentation, and working to maintain long-term contact and promote retention of participants in the study cohort. Experienced candidates may have the opportunity to work closely with and provide supervision of students based on experience and interest. The CRC should be able to work closely with external partners, as this is a multi-site study.
DUITES:
Lead all screening, recruitment, and consent protocols for a research study investigating the impact of financial hardship following critical illness
Administer surveys repeatedly over time patients and their family members experiencing a health crisis
Conduct interviews with patients, family members, and clinicians
Maintain study databases and data tracking systems using REDCap
Attend research team meetings
Maintain regulatory compliance and IRB documentation
Train and oversee work of student research assistants
Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications
Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Preferred:
Experience with qualitative research methods and working with institutional review boards and human research subject protection regulations.
Strong computer skills are essential. Candidate must be comfortable and willing to learn to use REDCap and qualitative research methods.
Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; highly organized; attentive to detail; ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to achieve collective goals; and flexibility to shift focus between multiple projects as needed.
Prior qualitative research work.
Demonstrated abilities to work with people experiencing distress and community organizations
