**Job Description:**

The Nurse Educator will be an expert in industry education standards supporting and guiding caregivers in self-improvement and self-development. The Nurse Educator will assess, guide, support, coordinate, and evaluate caregivers? orientation and ongoing learning needs in alignment with their associated program, service or care group. Under the direction of the Education Manager will be a resource, consultant, and mentor to caregivers and clinical coaches in their assigned area fostering self-reliance and building a social team.

The RN Educator may be asked to travel to various locations to perform their work duties.

In small or rural facilities this position functions as the facility educator with other duties as assigned.

Scope

This is a full-time facility level role directly reporting to the local Education Manager with dotted line accountability to clinical leaders based on portfolio.

Job Essentials

Collaborates with colleagues in all areas of the organization to understand goals, priorities, learning needs for care area (e. g., performance, competencies, skills, new initiatives), and ensures evidence-based practice is adopted within specialties for all caregivers.

Participates as an education representative on local Shared Leadership Teams (or equivalent).

Facilitates high quality and focused new caregiver orientation, supports ongoing learning needs of existing caregivers, and clinical coaches, ensuring learning opportunities by utilizing standardized orientation tools and resources (e. g., CSS).

Executes learning initiatives as guided by the Education Manager including but not limited to the coordination of new skill development, transition to new equipment or processes, and providing just in time in-services/refreshers.

Conducts needs assessment and communicate findings to clinical managers and education manager.

Assists caregivers in achieving novice to expert mastery.

Evaluates clinical education outcomes and report outcomes to Education Manager.

Maintains huddle board metrics associated with clinical education.

Documents learning requirements utilizing recommended approved tools.

Supports compliance and regulation in preparation for surveys and audits (e. g., The Joint Commission, CMS).

Supports simulation-based learning needs of new and existing employees (e. g., acts as facilitator, confederate, subject matter expert in the development of scenarios or during simulation activities).

Provides coaching and mentoring to clinical coaches and caregivers to assist them in managing their own personal learning, growth, and job enrichment opportunities.

Ensures learners are aware of learning expectations.

Organizes skills days or skills pass offs sessions, as appropriate.

Meets regularly with Nurse Educators in all areas of the organization.

Be visibly present on units, meeting and educating day shift, night shift and weekend shift caregivers. Visible presence in each unit.

Initiates opportunities to regularly recognize caregivers and peers.

**Minimum Qualifications**

Current RN License in state of practice.

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Unit specific certification as required (i. e., ACLS, PALS, etc).

(Applicants must either have required additional certifications (e. g. ACLS, PALs, NRP) upon hire or must obtain them within a specified timeframe determined by service line and department guidelines.

RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion.

Two years of RN experience working in the department or specialty care area.

Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships.

Experience in a role requiring collaboration and strong customer service orientation, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with professionals at all levels.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and meet deadlines.

Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and consensus-building communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to teach, present and facilitate learning activities.

**Preferred Qualifications**

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

Master's degree in Education, Instructional Design, or Training/Development.

Experience in behavior health care and processes preferred

Certification in Nursing Professional Development.

Experience with effectively utilizing information systems, software, and technologies to design, develop, and deliver learning, including Learning Management Systems, Learning Content Management System, and E-learning development software.

Two years of experience in strategic planning and continuous improvement.

**Physical Requirements:**

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

- and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.

- and -

Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

- and -

Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
