SUMMARY:

The Fitness Specialist position is responsible for delivering best-in-class Fitness and Wellness Services to Discovery Senior Living Residents to help attain and/ or maintain their highest possible level of fitness. The role entails fitness and wellness program delivery for residents and clients in collaboration with therapy services, Senior Living community management, and Discovery At Home leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prescribe / perform individualized exercise programs to maintain/increase fitness and functional levels. 
  • Perform fitness assessments, review medical history, establish baseline status, create goals and a fitness plan.
  • Collaborate with leadership and clinical education teams to enhance client care.
  • Participate/lead health and wellness events to provide learning and engagement opportunities for residents/family.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification as a personal trainer through an accredited organization and/or has earned a degree in exercise                science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or a related field with relevant experience.
  • CPR certification
  • Previous experience working with older adults.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of gym equipment, safety.
  • Knowledge and use of computer applications Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Outlook.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice
  • Strong problem-solving skills
