Description

EES Coke Operations is a facility in River Rouge, MI on Zug Island. The plant produces coke from various types of coal blends and is then used as fuel in the blast furnaces at the steel mill.

 

This is not a position with Detroit Edison, it's a position with EES Coke Battery, which is a subsidiary of DTE Energy.

 

The position includes health, dental, vision, and prescription insurance starting day one of employment. This position receives quarterly bonuses of up to $7,500 per year, based on EES Coke Battery's quality and production. The hourly rate for this position is   $30.21.

 

The person in this job will work a 12-hour rotating shift. The schedule is a 4-week rotation; you will work 14 out of 28 days with 7 days off in a row somewhere within the 4-week rotation.

Job Summary

Boiler operators perform a range of tasks involved in day-to-day operation and maintenance of boilers. Being knowledgeable and willing to learn the functionality of the boilers and other affiliated equipment is imperative to the operation to efficiently conduct preventative boiler maintenance to keep the fast-paced coke producing unit running optimally. They ensure appropriate fuel delivery to keep the boiler working. Operators devote significant time to monitoring meters and gauges to maintain fuel, chemical and water levels, adjusting the levels as necessary. Additional tasks include maintenance and repairs. Reporting to the Business Unit Manager, the employee exercises independent discretion and judgment within established policies, procedures and practices. Results are reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to these policies, procedures and practices.

Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for participating in safety activities to meet or exceed organizational goals and expectations
• Knowledge of OSHA and State rules and regulations governing operations of boiler house
• Maintains interpersonal relationships with individuals both external and internal to the organization
• Be an active participant of developing and maintaining a culture of professionalism
• Responsible for following all rules, policies, or expectations
• Responsible for environmental compliance
• Performs all other related duties as assigned
• Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with boiler house.
• Ability to locate, troubleshoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment and/or maintain, install, modify and troubleshoot plant electrical systems and equipment.
• Ability to operate and maintain various analytical and test equipment
• Ensure optimal and continuous operation of mechanical systems by performing routine inspections and maintenance, monitoring metering equipment and adjusting levels as necessary
• Maintain systems by scheduling regular inspections, cleanings, filter replacement and all other tasks necessary to keep all components performing optimally; identify and repair or replace malfunctioning components
• Ensure safety by monitoring safety equipment, identifying potential issues and taking appropriate steps to suspend operations and repair the problem
 

Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or GED, with a minimum of 4 years' boiler plant operating experience preferred. Boiler license is not required. Must be willing to work any shift, weekends and overtime.

Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
